Estádio Olímpico Monumental, also known as Estádio Olímpico, is a football stadium inaugurated on September 19, 1954 in Porto... Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, with a maximum capacity of 45,000 people. The stadium is owned by Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense. The stadium was inaugurated on September 19, 1954, with a maximum capacity of 38,000 people. In 1980, the stadium was expanded, and its capacity increased to 85,000 people. In 1990, the upper ring bleachers were numbered, and the Olímpico Monumental's capacity decreased to 51,081 people. The inaugural match was played on September 19, 1954, when Grêmio beat Nacional of Uruguay 2-0. The first goal of the stadium was scored by Grêmio's player Vitor. The stadium's attendance record currently stands at 85,721, set on April 26, 1981, when Ponte Preta beat Grêmio 1-0. Grêmio won the Copa Libertadores at Estádio Olímpico Monumental on July 29, 1983, after defeating Peñarol from Uruguay in a difficult match. The stadium is also used for large concerts. The first concert in the history of the stadium was the former member of the band The Police, the singer-songwriter Sting.

Arena Tricolor is a new multi-use stadium in Porto Alegre, Brazil, that is currently in the construction stage. Once completed in 2012, it will be... used mostly for football matches and as the home stadium of Grêmio. Upon completion, it will replace the current home of Grêmio, Estádio Olímpico Monumental. With 60,000 capacity, the stadium intends to be one of the 2014 FIFA World Cup venues. A mile from the international airport of Porto Alegre and alongside the road way, the stadium site appeared perfect to create a multifunctional urban center. Plans include a Conference and Congress Center, hotels, a mall, housing, condominiums and parking. The arena itself intends to be functional year round. A concept that starts from green field to the milestone of creating economical revenue to the club, the stadium development and building costs are paid through this concept goals plus future real estate business. The architectural firm PLARQ is responsible for the stadium projects design andconcept and OAS is the general contractor.

The Gigantinho is a sports arena in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The sixth largest arena in the country, it was opened on 4 November 1973. It is located in... the riverside Beira-Rio complex of Sport Club Internacional, next to the "Gigante" stadium. Covering 7,200 square meters, the arena includes an indoor football pitch. The capacity of the gym is 12,864 people for games and 14,586 for concerts. Eleven cabins are set aside for the press. There are thirteen bathrooms , six changing rooms, and eleven bars. The gym houses the Foundation for Education and Culture of SCI , where the library is located. The Gigantinho has hosted numerous events and concerts, as well as the World Social Forum and the World Forum on Education.

Humberto Gessinger is the singer and bassist of the Brazilian band Engenheiros do Hawaii. Gessinger was born in Porto Alegre, Brazil. In late 1984,... he formed a rock band with two friends from the faculty of architecture at UFRGS, Carlos Maltz and Marcelo Pitz, to play in a parade made by students. The band decided to call themselves Engenheiros do Hawaii , which was a name making fun of the surf wears that most of the Engineering students used to wear at the university campus. The band released their first album in 1986, although they had already appeared in a 'promising bands' collection of BMG Music at 1985. With the departure of Marcelo Pitz in May 1987, Gessinger started playing bass and the band recruited Augusto Licks as lead guitarist. In 2001, with yet another new formation of the band he returned to lead guitar. He is the only original member of the band who is still with the group. Since the beginning of the 1990s, Gessinger has been married to architect Adriana Sesti, who was his girlfriend since high school and throughout college.

Carmen Silva , who was often credited as Carmem Silva, was a Brazilian television, stage and film actress. She was best known in recent years for her... role on the Brazilian telenovela, Mulheres Apaixonadas in which she played Flora de Souza Duarte, the wife of Leopoldo Duarte . Mulheres Apaixonadas was created by Manoel Carlos. Silva was born Maria Amália Feijó in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil on April 5, 1916. Her acting career only began in earnest in 1939 when she took a job at Rádio Cultura in Pelotas. She worked at the station, as well as others, in various capacities, until she moved to Sao Paulo, where she joined Radio Tupi. She also worked on Rádio Record with Janete Clair. The two wrote programs aimed at a female audience. Silva's career switched to the newly popular medium of television during the 1950s. She began acting in soap operas and telenovelas during the decade, including A Próxima Atração, Ossos do Barão, Sinal de Alerta, as well as the miniseries, O Primo Basílio. She also founded her own theater company in Rio Grande do Sul during the 1960s.

Eduardo Reck Miranda, Ph.D, , is a Brazilian composer of chamber and electroacoustic pieces but is most notable in the United Kingdom for his... scientific research into computer music, particularly in the field of human-machine interfaces where brain waves will replace keyboards and voice commands to permit the disabled to express themselves musically. Miranda was born in the early 1960s in Porto Alegre, Brazil. As one of the largest cities in Southern Brazil and a cultural, political and economical center, Porto Alegre had significant influence on Miranda's music. In the early 1990s, Miranda attended the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos in Brazil where he received a degree in Data Processing Technology in 1985. Miranda then attended the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul where he studied music composition. Desiring to learn more about music technology and experience more of the world, Miranda made his way to the United Kingdom, where he started his post-graduate research studies at the University of York. At York, he developed an in-depth study into musical composition using cellular automata.

Roger Manganelli is the bassist and one of the two lead vocalists for ska-punk band Less Than Jake. He is also the lead vocalist and guitarist for... Rehasher, and drummer for Greenhorn. When not playing with a band, Manganelli is either working with toys and airplanes or developing his home studio, Moathouse Productions. Roger's employment history includes working at Knuckleheads, a smoke shop in Gainesville, Florida which was later transformed into a similar establishment named Smoke before going out of business. Manganelli is the second bassist for Less Than Jake and has appeared on all of Less Than Jake's albums. Previously a guitar player, he played bass for the first time when he joined the band. In addition to playing bass, he shares singing duties with Chris Demakes. Manganelli produces Less than Jake's demos and some official releases of 2006, and co-produced GNV FLA of 2008, and often plays the guitar tracks on the records.

Manfredo Irmin Fest was a legally blind bossa nova and jazz pianist and keyboardist from Brazil. He was also a famous bandleader. He was born in... Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and he died at 63 years old in Tampa Bay, Florida, USA. He was husband of the composer Lili Fest and father of the guitarist Phil Fest. Manfredo Fest was of German descent: his father was a concert pianist from Germany who taught at University in Porto Alegre. Although he was blind, Fest learned to read music in Braille. His initial musical training had been classical, but at 17 years old, he became interested in the jazz works of George Shearing and Bill Evans. At college he gained steady work playing bossa nova in São Paulo. In 1961, Fest graduated in piano from the University of Rio Grande do Sul. He also learned to play keyboards and saxophone. One year later, he started his musical career playing in bars, clubs and pubs. In 1963, he recorded his first LP, called Bossa nova, nova bossa. In this album, he counted with Humberto Clayber , Antonio Pinheiro and Hector Costita .
