Stanley Unwin , sometimes billed as Professor Stanley Unwin, was a British comedian and comic writer, and the inventor of his own language,... "Unwinese", referred to in the film Carry On Regardless as "gobbledegook". Unwinese was a mangled form of English in which many of the words were corrupted in playful and humorous ways, as in its description of Elvis Presley and his contemporaries as being "wasp-waist and swivel-hippy". Unwin claimed his gift came from his mother, who once told him that on the way home she had "falolloped over and grazed her kneeclabbers". Unwin's parents emigrated from the United Kingdom to South Africa in the early 1900s, and their son was born in Pretoria in 1911. Following his father's death in 1914 his mother arranged for the family to return to the United Kingdom. By 1919, Unwin had been sent to the National Children's Home at Congleton in Cheshire. In the late 1920s he studied radio, television and languages at the Regent Street Polytechnic. In the 1930s, he married his wife Frances, with whom he had two daughters and a son.

Glynis Johns is a South African-born Welsh stage and film actress, dancer, pianist and singer . Johns was born in Pretoria, South Africa, the... daughter of Alys Maude , a pianist, and Mervyn Johns , the British stage and film actor. Her roots are in West Wales, and she was born in Pretoria while her parents were performing on tour there. She attended Clifton High School in Bristol for a short time. Johns made her first stage appearance in Buckie's Bears as a child ballerina at the Garrick Theatre in 1935. She made her 1938 film debut in the movie version of Winifred Holtby's novel, South Riding. In 1944, she appeared with her father in Halfway House, and in 1948 starred as a mermaid in Miranda . In 1952, she co-starred in the movie version of Arnold Bennett's novel The Card.

Arnold Vosloo is a South African actor, best known for playing Imhotep in The Mummy and its 2001 sequel The Mummy Returns, as well as the role of... the superhero Darkman in the sequel Darkman II: The Return of Durant and its 1996 sequel, Darkman III: Die Darkman Die. and more recently, a South African Mercenary named Colonel Coetzee in the film Blood Diamond, a Middle Eastern terrorist named Habib Marwan in the television series 24, and Zartan in the film G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and its upcoming 2012 sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Vosloo was born in Pretoria, into an acting family, his parents having been stage-actors, and the family moved around quite a lot. They lived in Despatch, where his father ran a drive-in theater, and Alberton. He has one sister, Nadia. His acting talent was discovered quite early in a school play. After high school and military service , he took drama courses at the Pretoria Technikon.

Vusi Sidney Mahlasela Ka Zwane is a Sotho South African singer-songwriter. His music is generally described as "African folk". His work was an... inspiration to many in the anti-apartheid movement. His themes include the struggle for freedom, and forgiveness and reconciliation with enemies. Vusi can also be heard performing on Warren Haynes' Live at Bonnaroo release during the song "Soulshine", and the Dave Matthews Band song, "Everyday", from the album of the same name as well as a live version of the song with him which appears on the album The Best of What's Around Vol. 1. Vusi was also one of the performers at the Live 8 concerts. His album The Voice includes the popular track "Weeping", recorded with Josh Groban and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Vusi joined Mambazo for their October–November UK tour in 2004, and again for their 2007 UK tour, again from October to November 2007. He and other South African musicians took part in the 2002 documentary Amandla!: A Revolution in Four-Part Harmony where they recalled the days of Apartheid. In June 2007, Mahlasela spoke of apartheid and performed "Thula Mama" at the TED Conference.

Abraham Benjamin de Villiers more commonly known by his initials AB is a South African cricketer and captain of the South African One Day... International and Twenty20 teams, having succeeded Graeme Smith in both roles after the 2011 Cricket World Cup. He is also part of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. De Villiers is a right-handed batsman, who, in a very short space of time, has accumulated many runs in Tests including centuries against England, India, the West Indies and Australia. He has been dismissed in the 90s on five occasions in Tests. He still holds the record for most Test innings without registering a duck , before being dismissed for nought against Bangladesh in November 2008. He also holds the record for the highest individual score by a South African batsman in an innings, with 278*. He is an occasional wicketkeeper for the South African cricket team, and is commonly regarded as one of the best fielders currently in international cricket.

Nicky Hambleton-Jones is a South African fashion stylist and former television presenter, best known for hosting the Channel 4 makeover show 10... Years Younger. Hambleton-Jones was born in Pretoria, South Africa, the daughter of a geologist and a teacher . She gained a degree in dietetics and attended medical school for two years and then began working as a hospital dietician, before starting her own private practice. She changed careers and took a one-year business course, before moving to London in 1996, where she worked in the City as a marketing consultant. After being made redundant for the third time, two weeks before her thirtieth birthday, Hambleton-Jones decided to pursue a career in fashion. In May 2001 she founded the personal stylist consultancy NHJ Style. Based on the success of this, in 2008, Nicky launched the NHJ Style Academy which runs courses for men and women who want to pursue a career in personal styling. She is known for her trademark glasses, she recently launched her own eyewear range NHJ Eyewear.
