XL Recordings is a British independent record label owned by Richard Russell. It originated as a 1989 offshoot of Beggars Banquet Records. Though only releasing an average of six albums a year, XL Recordings has worked with The Prodigy, Radiohead, The White Stripes, Dizzee Rascal, M.I.A., Vampire... Weekend, The xx, Gil Scott-Heron, Tyler, the Creator, and Adele. The label releases albums worldwide and operates across a range of genres. The label was launched in 1989 to release rave and dance music. It was originally an offshoot of Beggars Banquet Records' more commercial dance label called Citybeat which was known for records by acts such as Freeez, Starlight, Dream Frequency and the Ultramagnetic MCs. However with the success of acts such as The Prodigy and SL2, XL superseded Citybeat in the company's line up. During the early nineties, XL Recordings releases were dance orientated ranging from Belgium techno to Breakbeat hardcore to Drum and Bass . Capitol Records is a major United States–based record label, formerly located in Los Angeles, but as of 2011 operating in New York City as part of Capitol Music Group. Its former headquarters building, the Capitol Tower, is a major landmark near the corner of Hollywood and Vine. It is a... wholly owned subsidiary of EMI. The Capitol Records Company was founded by songwriter Johnny Mercer in 1942, with the financial help of fellow songwriter and film producer Buddy DeSylva and the business acumen of Glenn Wallichs , owner of Music City, at the time the biggest record store in Los Angeles. Johnny Mercer first suggested the idea of starting a record company while he was golfing with Harold Arlen and Bobby Sherwood. He told them, "I’ve got this idea of starting a record company. I get so tired of listening to the way everyone treats music. I keep feeling they’re selling out. And I don’t like the way artists are treated either. Bing Crosby isn’t the only one who can make records. I don’t know, I think it would be fun." By 1941, Mercer was not only an experienced songwriter, but a singer with a number of records to his name.

TBD Records is an American record label co-founded by Coran Capshaw and Phil Costello, and is a sublabel of ATO Records, distributed by RED Distribution. The label was founded in August 2007 and quickly announced its first release, the band Underworld's first studio album in five years, Oblivion... with Bells. Side One Recordings gained attention when it was connected with the CD release of Radiohead's 2007 album In Rainbows in the United States and Canada. In 2008 they signed the British band Hatcham Social, releasing their debut album You Dig The Tunnel I'll Hide The Soil in June 2009. Due to legal issues with a similarly named operator in the U.S., Side One Recordings was forced to change its name. This brought Underworld and Radiohead under the same newly-named label. According to the TBD Records website, "The original name for this record company was Side One Recordings. But some potential issues caused us to figure out a new name, and quick. We came up with TBD as it seemed appropriate for the situation, but we like it.
