Hopkins is a suburban city in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States, located west of Minneapolis. The city is about four square miles in size and is surrounded by the larger, west suburban communities of Minnetonka, St. Louis Park, and Edina. Hopkins is about 98% developed with little remaining... vacant land. The population was 17,591 at the 2010 census. U.S. Route 169 and Minnesota State Highway 7 are two of the main arterial routes in the city. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.1 square miles , all land. There are several small ponds on the western side, and some creeks to the north and south. One of these creeks includes Minnehaha Creek. The north branch of Nine Mile Creek has its headwaters in Hopkins at the intersection of 13th Avenue South and Excelsior Blvd. At the 2000 census, there were 17,145 people, 8,224 households and 3,741 families residing in the city. The population density was 4,205.9 per square mile . There were 8,390 housing units at an average density of 2,058.2 pe square mile . The company owns 33 casual dining and specialty restaurants, as well as casino and entertainment venues, convention facilities and hotels in the United States. At the end of 2005 the company had operations in 35 states and the District of Columbia. The company started in 1980 with the... original Landry's Seafood House Restaurant located in Katy, Texas. A year later, they opened Willie G's Seafood and Steak House in Uptown Houston. In 1986, Tilman J. Fertitta obtained controlling interest in the two restaurants and would later become the CEO of the company, which went public in August 1993. Under Fertitta, the company grew rapidly through acquisition and expansion of Landry's and other restaurant concepts. In 1998, the company completed development of the 35-acre Kemah Boardwalk, which includes restaurants, a hotel, amusement rides, and a marina.
