Poco is an Southern California country rock band originally formed by Richie Furay and Jim Messina following the demise of Buffalo Springfield in... 1968. The title of their first album, Pickin' Up the Pieces, is a reference to the break-up of Buffalo Springfield. Highly influential and creative, they were pioneers of the country rock genre. Throughout the years Poco has performed in various groupings, and is still active today. During recording of the third Buffalo Springfield album , each of the three lead singers recorded songs without the other members present. One of Furay's solo songs was the country-influenced ballad "Kind Woman", which he recorded with the help of producer/engineer/bassist Jim Messina and pedal steel guitarist Rusty Young. When Buffalo Springfield then split up, Furay, Messina and Rusty Young decided to start their own group oriented toward such songs.

Black Tie was an American country rock supergroup formed by Jimmy Griffin, Randy Meisner and Billy Swan. The group's first album, When the Night... Falls, was released in 1986 by Bench Records . "Learning the Game," a cover of the Buddy Holly song, was released as a single and reached the Top 60 of the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. Griffin was formerly a member of the soft rock band Bread, and would later chart five country singles as one-third of The Remingtons. Meisner was formerly a member of Poco, Rick Nelson's Stone Canyon Band and later of the Eagles, and Swan had several country hits in the 1970s, including the Number One country and pop hit "I Can Help". When Griffin left the group to form the Remingtons, the remaining members, Meisner and Swan, hooked up with Charlie Rich, Jr., son and former bandleader for his famous father, and began recording in 1992 under the name "Meisner, Swan & Rich.

Asylum Records is an American record label founded in 1971 by David Geffen and partner Elliot Roberts, who had previously worked as agents at the William Morris Agency. Founded specifically to provide a record contract for Jackson Browne, the label signed Tom Waits, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell,... The Eagles and Bob Dylan for two albums. It was taken over by Warner Communications in 1972, and merged with Elektra Records to become Elektra/Asylum Records. After various incarnations, today it is geared primarily towards hip-hop, along with rock and Alternative Metal. It is owned by Warner Music Group, and is currently distributed through Warner Bros. Records. Asylum was founded in 1971 by David Geffen, and partner Elliot Roberts, who had previously worked as agents at the William Morris Agency, and operated a folk/rock label. They founded their own management company, and when Geffen was unable to get a recording contract for Jackson Browne, one of his clients at the time, Geffen and Roberts founded Asylum specifically to sign Browne. Asylum's early releases were distributed by Atlantic Records.
