The stadium's official name, Adelmar da Costa Carvalho, is in honor of the Sport Recife president who presided over the first major renovation of the stadium. Blocks of high-rise flats border the ground giving the residents and visitors excellent views of the games in the stadium from their windows and balconies. Ilha do Retiro was the first stadium to be built in Recife, after Sport Recife bought a 17-hectare small ranch. In the 1950 World Cup, the match between Chile and the United States was played at the stadium.

Marlos Nobre is a Brazilian composer. He has received commissions from numerous institutions, including the Ministry of Culture in Spain, the Free... University of Music of São Paulo, the Neuchâtel Chamber Orchestra in Switzerland, The Apollon Foundation in Bremen, Germany and the Maracaibo Music Festival in Venezuela. He has also sat on the juries of numerous international music competitions, including the Cità di Alessandria Prize and the The Arthur Rubinstein Piano Master Competition. Nobre studied piano and music theory at the Conservatory of Music of Pernambuco from 1948 to 1959, and composition with H. J. Koellreutter and Camargo Guarnieri. When he received a scholarship from the Rockefeller Foundation, he pursued advanced studies at the Latin American Center in Buenos Aires, alongside Ginastera, Messiaen, Malipiero, Copland and Dallapiccola. He worked also with Alexander Goehr and Gunther Schuller at the Berkshire Music Center in Tanglewood in 1969, where he met Leonard Bernstein. The same year he studied electronic music at the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center in New York.

Naná Vasconcelos is a Brazilian Latin jazz percussionist, vocalist and berimbau player, most notable for his works with Pat Metheny, Don... Cherry, Egberto Gismonti, and Gato Barbieri. Beginning from 1967 he joined many artists' works as a percussionist. Among his many collaborations, he contributed to four Jon Hassell albums from 1976 to 1980 , and later to several Pat Metheny Group works and Jan Garbarek concerts from early 1980s to early 1990s. In 1984 he appeared on the Pierre Favre album Singing Drums along with Paul Motian. He also appears on Arild Andersen's album "If You Look Far Enough" with Ralph Towner. He formed a group named Codona with Don Cherry and Collin Walcott, which released three albums in 1978, 1980 and 1982. In 1998, Vasconcelos contributed "Luz De Candeeiro" to the AIDS benefit compilation album Onda Sonora: Red Hot + Lisbon produced by the Red Hot Organization. Vasconcelos was awarded the Best Percussionist Of The Year by the Downbeat Critics Poll for seven consecutive years, from 1984 to 1990.

Walter Wanderley , pronounced "VON-DER-LAY", was an organist and pianist, born in Recife, Brazil and best known for his lounge and bossa nova music.... Already famous in his native country by the late 1950s, he became an internationally renowned star in the mid 1960's through his collaboration with the singer Astrud Gilberto. He recorded six albums on the Verve label between 1966 and 1968. Three of these albums, Rainforest, Cheganca and Astrud Gilberto's A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness were with a trio consisting of Walter, Claudio Slon and Jose Marino and were produced in the United States by Creed Taylor, who initially brought the Trio to the U.S. to record at the persuasion of Tony Bennett. Wanderley's U.S. recording of Summer Samba reached #26 on the Billboard charts in the summer of 1966.. Another album recorded during this period was "Popcorn", in collaboration with the Brazilian singer-guitatrist Luiz Henrique Rosa.

Lenine, artist name of Osvaldo Lenine Macedo Pimentel is a Brazilian singer-songwriter from Recife, Pernambuco. In 2005, he has won two Latin Grammy... Awards for "Best Brazilian Contemporary Album" and "Best Brazilian Song". Lenine's career began at the age of 18, when he moved to Rio de Janeiro to compete in a music festival. In 1983, he released his first LP, Baque Solto, with partner Lula Queiroga. Ten years later, he released his second album, Olho de Peixe, with percussionist Marcos Suzano. Lenine's first solo record, O Dia em que Faremos Contato, was released in 1997, featuring a mixture of electronica, northeastern Brazilian rhythms and samba. Two years later, he released Na Pressão. In 2001, Falange Canibal was released. This album attracted international attention due to the appearance of the U.S. group Living Color performing with him on the song "O Homem dos Olhos de Raios-X". His next album In Cité was recorded live at the auditorium of the Cité de la Musique in Paris. In 2005, Lenine won two Latin Grammys: one for "Best Brazilian Contemporary Album" and one for "Best Brazilian Song".

André Jung is a Brazilian drummer and journalist, best known for his performances in the band Ira!. He has also been a member of Titãs,... although he has released only one album with them. Curiously, the drummer that he replaced in Ira! went to play with Titãs, with whom he played with until 2010. André studied journalism at the Communication and Arts School of the University of São Paulo and writes columns for sites and newspapers. Currently has a new band named Urban ToTem, alongside former acoustic tour members of IRA! such as Michelle Abu and Jonas Moncaio.

Antônio Meneses Neto is a Brazilian cellist. Antonio Meneses was born in a family of musicians. His father was first horn player at the Opera... of Rio de Janeiro. He began to study the cello when he was ten. During a tour in South America, the famous cellist Antonio Janigro met him and asked him to join his classes in Düsseldorf and then in Stuttgart. In 1977, he won the first Prize at the International Competition in Munich and in 1982 he was awarded first Prize and gold Medal at the Tchaikowsky Competition in Moscow.
