Indianapolis  /ˌɪndiəˈnæpɵlɨs/ is the capital of the US state of Indiana, and the county seat of Marion County, Indiana. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city's population is 829,718. Indianapolis is also one of the fastest growing regions in the United States. For much of its history, Indianapolis has oriented itself around government and industry, particularly manufacturing. Today, Indianapolis has a much more diversified economy, contributing to the fields of education, health care, and finance. Tourism is also a vital part of the economy of Indianapolis, and the city plays host to numerous conventions and sporting events. Of these, perhaps the most well known is the annual Indianapolis 500 and the NHRA U.S. Nationals. Other major sporting events include the Brickyard 400 and the Men's and Women's NCAA Basketball Tournaments.

Republic Airways Holdings, Inc. is an aviation holding corporation based in Indianapolis, Indiana, which owns five airlines operating in the United States: Chautauqua Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Mokulele Airlines, Republic Airlines and Shuttle America. Chautauqua operates regional jet aircraft with up to 50 seats, Shuttle America operates Embraer 175 aircraft airliners with 76 seats, and Republic Airlines operates Embraer 170, 175 and 190... aircraft with 70-99 seats. Frontier Airlines operates Airbus A320 family aircraft with 120-162 seats. The company traces it roots to Chautauqua Airlines which was founded in 1973 in Jamestown, New York by Joel and Gloria Hall. Joel had been a pilot for Mohawk Airlines. Chautauqua was one of the first airlines to fly under code shares initially with Allegheny Airlines which later became USAir. In 1988 an affiliate of Guarantee Security Life Insurance Company bought the airline. In 1991 the Florida Department of Insurance took over the insurance company and its airline subsidiary after the insurance company was declared insolvent.
