The Oakland Raiders are a professional American football team based in Oakland, California. They play in the Western Division of the American Football Conference in the National Football League . The Raiders began play in the American Football League in 1960 and joined the NFL in the... AFL–NFL merger of 1970. The Raiders were formed in 1960, taking a spot in the newly desinged AFL that had been vacated when the owners of the as-yet unnamed Minneapolis-Saint Paul franchise reneged on its agreement with the AFL and joined the NFL as the Minnesota Vikings. The city of Oakland took Minneapolis-Saint Paul's place in the league and inherited their inaugural draft selections, and the Raiders began play in the 1960 American Football League season. The team relocated to Los Angeles for thirteen seasons, 1982 to 1994. They returned to Oakland in 1995. During their first three seasons, the Raiders struggled both on and off the field. In 1963, Al Davis was brought to the team as head coach and general manager, and from 1963 until 2002 the team had only seven losing seasons.

Sam Houston State University was founded in 1879 and is the third oldest public institution of higher learning in the State of Texas. It is located 70 miles north of Houston in the hills, lakes, and forests region of East Texas in Huntsville. The school is named for one of Texas's founding fathers, Sam Houston, who made his home in the city. SHSU is part of the Texas State University System and has an enrollment of more than 17,600 students. It was the first institution classified as a Doctoral Research University by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education within the Texas State University System. While education continues to be the most popular major among students at the university, SHSU is also well known for its dance and criminal justice programs. Created by legislation signed by Governor Oran M. Roberts on April 21, 1879, Sam Houston Normal Institute's dedicated goal was to train teachers for the public schools of Texas.

Groesbeck is a city in and the county seat of Limestone County, Texas, United States. The population was 4,291 at the 2000 census. The community is named after a railroad employee. The community is located at the junction of State Highways 14 and 164. Groesbeck is the closest town to historic Old Fort Parker. The town holds an annual Christmas Festival at the site of old Fort Parker every December. The original fort has been re-built on the original site to exact specifications. As of the census of 2000, there were 4,291 people, 1,297 households, and 878 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,141.3 people per square mile .
