Richmond

Winehaven was a winery and town in Richmond, California, that held the title of "world's largest winery" for 12 years . It later became a fuel depot... for the United States Navy. After the 1906 San Francisco earthquake left the city in ruins, the California Wine Association moved to Point Molate, a promontory on the east shore of San Pablo Bay, and began construction of Winehaven. At the peak of the season, as many as 400 workers lived here, as all of the California Wine Association's shipments to foreign, coastal and New York markets sailed from the Winehaven dock—shipment capacity was 500,000 gallons a month, and 40 ships sailed annually for New York alone. The winery was shut down by Prohibition in 1919; and the company sold off its assets to avoid bankruptcy. Winehaven went mostly unused from about 1920 until the late 1930s. A post office operated at Winehaven from 1910 to 1925. The Navy bought the 412 acres site in 1941, moved into the winery buildings, and constructed 20 large concrete tanks on the hillsides above for a fuel depot.

Hotel Mac is a historic hotel and restaurant that was built in 1911 and is located in Point Richmond. The original hotel was build in 1911 and named... the Colonial Hotel. It served many different people, but mostly workers from the nearby Standard Oil refinery . In the 1930s it was purchased by A. V. McAfee, a former manager at the Claremont Hotel. He also changed its name to the Hotel Mac. Beginning in the 1940s and 1950s, however, Hotel Mac began to lose its popularity and character. In 1971 a fire damaged the structure, and it closed for business. In 1978 two men named Bill Burnett and Griff Brazil formed a company to restore and reopen Hotel Mac as a fine dining restaurant. The hotel also reopened. Currently, both the restaurant and the hotel are fully operational. The hotel is notable because each of its 10 rooms are decorated with slightly different styles and color schemes. Hotel Mac is a contributing property to the Point Richmond Historic District, and was also listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Alvarado Park is a subsection of Wildcat Canyon Regional Park in Richmond, California and is a National Historic Place. It is located at the mouth... of Wildcat Canyon is the Alvarado Park section. Between 1909 and 1923, Alvarado Park was a private park that was owned and operated by local residents. In 1923, it was donated to the city of Richmond. Then, in 1985, it was incorporated into Wildcat Canyon Regional Park and forms a historic district. In its early years, Alvarado Park was served by its own streetcar line from the East Shore and Suburban Railway, a Key System precursor, which was later discontinued. The park district made certain improvements including a new children's play area, conversion of parking into meadows, and demolition of dilapidated structures. It was also the home of the Grande Vista Sanitarium, later known as Belgum Sanitarium. Though the associated buildings have since burned to the ground, their foundations and the surrounding grounds, including an orchard remain. The park also features distinctive and noted stone masonry, retaining walls, and classical stone lampposts. The lampposts are no longer lit.

The New Hotel Carquinez or simply Hotel Carquinez is a registered historic place in Richmond, California. It is located in the Iron Triangle at 410... Harbor Way. It is named after the Carquinez Strait. The New Hotel Carquinez was the original name and it was later changed to Hotel Don. The building currently functions as senior housing center. The hotel was the center of decision making for the city of Richmond prior to the construction of the Richmond Civic Center.

He is the founder of the popular label No Limit Records, which went bankrupt and was relaunched as New No Limit Records through Koch Records. followed by Guttar Music Entertainment, Take A Stand Records and No Limit Forever Records. He is the founder and CEO of P. Miller Enterprises, an entertainment and financial conglomerate and Better Black Television. Miller gained fame in the late 1990s with the success of his group TRU and his fifth album Ice Cream Man, which contained his first single "Mr. Ice Cream Man". In 1997, after the success of one his biggest singles to date, "Make 'Em Say Uhh!," went platinum, Miller grew further in popularity. Then Miller released his second platinum album Ghetto D. Miller also starred in his own street film, mostly based on his life, I'm Bout It,. Then In 1998, P. Miller released his most successful album to date MP Da Last Don. The album was also based on a film that Miller produced, which came out earlier that year with the same name.

Kenny Ray Carter is an American business owner, education activist and former high school basketball coach. Carter attended college at San Francisco... State, then Contra Costa College, and finally George Fox University, where he played basketball. Carter maintained that his athletes must take their studies seriously, as good academic performance would give them access to college and other opportunities in life. Public opinion eventually changed, and he was praised for his determined emphasis on prioritizing good values for his team. Coming from an abusive family, he was raised strictly on academics, but found a liking in sports. The story of the 1999 season is the basis for the 2005 film Coach Carter, with Carter played by Samuel L. Jackson. Carter continues to coach sports teams, except basketball. Currently, he is the coach of the Slamball team Rumble. He led Rumble to their first-ever Slamball Cup victory in 2001/2002. Carter has said that the greatest moment in his life was when he carried the Olympic Torch for the 2002 Winter Olympics.

While Franklin speaks highly of his stepfather and has called him “very loving,” Franklin has spoken out about his stepfather’s abusive tendencies, linking his outlashes to alcohol use. Problems at home combined with life in a tough neighborhood fueled Franklin’s ambition to be the first in his family to attend college. In high school, Franklin worked hard on his academics, which paid off when he was awarded a scholarship to University of California, Berkeley.

Stephen Bradley plays the trumpet, keyboard, and sings in the band No Doubt. Influenced by Level 42, A Tribe called Quest, Stevie Wonder, and The... Beatles, he grew up wanting to play the drums. Because his school band already had three drummers, he decided to play the trumpet because "I knew it only had three valves so I figured it was simplistic enough and would be easy to pick upit's one of the hardest instruments to play." When Phil Jordan left No Doubt in 1995 to go back to school, Stephen stepped in. This was after the recording of Tragic Kingdom. However, No Doubt was not his first band. Two of the bands Stephen contributed to were Dizzybam and The Good Life, which were local Bay Area bands. The bands had in common Benjamin Decker and Kerry James, while Dave Tweedie and Justus Dobrin were enlisted to round out the group. The band released a five song EP, played a few shows and stayed together for over a year. Stephen collaborates with long-time friend and producer Dave Tweedie under the pseudonym Chocolate O'Brian Productions.

Zachary Stone, and the CBS hit soap opera The Young and the Restless as a rapist named Derek Stuart. He is perhaps best known for his role as Larry Kazamias in the comedy film Summer School. Olandt also starred in the 1993 horror film Leprechaun, and had a re-occurring role as "Dooley" in the second season of Stephen J. Cannell's Riptide . He guest-starred as Lydia's innocent alien brother Nigel, in a 1985 episode of V: The Series. Olandt has made guest appearances in many TV shows, ranging from Highway to Heaven, Matt Houston, The Fall Guy, The A-Team, JAG, and Star Trek: The Next Generation in the season 7 episode, "Bloodlines" as Jason Vigo.

Jason Eli Becker is an American virtuoso neo-classical metal guitarist and composer. At the age of 16, he became part of the Mike Varney-produced... duo Cacophony with his friend Marty Friedman. They released Speed Metal Symphony in 1987 and Go Off! in 1988. Cacophony broke up in 1989 and Becker began doing solo work, having released his first album Perpetual Burn in 1988. He later joined David Lee Roth's band and recorded one album with him. However, Becker's success was hampered by his then-diagnosed amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and he was given three to five years to live. In 1996, Becker eventually lost the ability to speak and now communicates with his eyes via a system developed by his father. Despite his disability, he continues composing by using a computer and has since released Collection, a "best of" album of his favorite songs and three new songs. Becker was born and raised in the city, Richmond, California by his parents, Gary and Pat Becker. He was born on 23rd Street in Richmond Hospital in 1969. He graduated from Kennedy High School where he performed Yngwie Malmsteen's Black Star with his band at a talent show.

Ronald Ralph "Ronnie" Schell is an American actor, stand-up comedian and cartoon voice actor . Early in his career he appeared as himself as a... contestant on You Bet Your Life opposite Groucho Marx, demonstrating a comic barrage of jive talk. Schell was born in Richmond, California. His first choice of careers was to play professional baseball. He got as far as the semi-pro league level before enlisting in the Air Force, where he performed in variety shows as both an emcee and comedian and also did record pantomimes. Schell studied at San Francisco State University and formed a nightclub comedy duo which took off. He turned solo within a year and progressed to Las Vegas work as an opening act. Perhaps Ronnie will always be best remembered for playing Private Duke Slater on the Jim Nabors vehicle Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.. He played this role for three years, starred as a disc jockey for one season in his own sitcom, Good Morning, World. He then returned to Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. as a Corporal for its fifth and final season.
