Ritchie Blackmore

Rainbow were an English rock band, controlled by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore from 1975 to 1984 and 1994 to 1997. They were originally established... with American rock band Elf's members, though over the years Rainbow went through many line-up changes with no two studio albums featuring the same line-up. In addition to lead singers Ronnie James Dio, Graham Bonnet, Joe Lynn Turner and Doogie White, the project consisted of numerous backing musicians. The band started out combining mystical lyric themes with neo-classical metal, but went in a more streamlined commercial style following Dio's departure from the group. Rainbow were ranked #90 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. In 1974, Ritchie Blackmore publicly disliked the funk/soul elements being introduced to Deep Purple by David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes, as well as the disappointing Stormbringer album where his favourite musical style wasn't adequately captured.

Blackmore's Night is a British/American traditional folk rock duo led by Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night . When Night was working at a local New... York rock music radio station, she was once a Rainbow fan and first encountered Blackmore to ask him for an autograph in 1989. The two started living together in 1991 and she discovered that he had a passionate interest in Renaissance music. During the reformed Rainbow's recording the album Stranger in Us All in 1995, on which Night contributed some of the lyrics and backing harmony vocals, the duo were already gearing up their debut album. Night's personality and singing ability made her the natural choice as frontwoman. In 1997 the project started as being a pun of their own names, which would consist of themselves plus session musicians. Their debut album Shadow of the Moon was a musical success and featured Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull on flute for the song "Play Minstrel Play". In subsequent albums, particularly Fires at Midnight, there was an increased incorporation of rock guitar into the music, whilst maintaining a folk rock direction.

Green Bullfrog was an album resulting from a one-off studio project and recorded between February and May 1970. The album was the idea of producer... Derek Lawrence who assembled a group of musicians with whom he had worked in the 1960s. For contractual reasons, the musicians were billed under pseudonyms: Despite rumours at the time Jeff Beck, Roger Glover and Jon Lord do not appear on the sessions. A few originals were played, as well as many blues-inflected covers of rock songs. A record of this session was released in 1972. It was first issued on vinyl by MCA Records in the U.K. and Decca records in the U.S. A reissue was released in 1980 under ECY Street Records on Vinyl in the US. Four tracks recorded by Green Bullfrog have been published on the Ritchie Blackmore compilation Get Away - Groups and Sessions . It was remixed at Abbey Road Studios, London in 1991 by Derek Lawrence and released on CD.

Tetragrammaton Records was an American record label founded in the late 1960s by artist entertainment manager Roy Silver, Bruce Post Campbell, Marvin Deane, and comedian Bill Cosby . The term "Tetragrammaton" refers to the unspeakable Hebrew name of God. Tetragrammaton's most successful act was the... first incarnation of the rock band, Deep Purple. The label was also responsible for issuing John Lennon and Yoko Ono's 1968 album, Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins, in the United States after Lennon's US distributor, Capitol Records, refused to carry it due to the front and back covers' controversial nude photos of Lennon and Ono. Bill Cosby's 1969 stand-up comedy album, 8:15 12:15, was also released by the label as were the following two albums by comedian, Murray Roman: You Can't Beat People Up & Have Them Say I Love You and A Blind Man's Movie. Despite having several popular artists on its roster, Tetragrammaton permanently closed its doors after declaring bankruptcy in 1971. In 1972, Deep Purple's new label, Warner Bros.

Pony Canyon, Inc. is a Japanese company, established on October 1, 1966 , which publishes music, DVD and VHS videos, movies and video games. It is a subsidiary of Japanese Media Group, Fujisankei Communications Group. On October 1, 1966 Nippon Broadcasting System, Inc. opened a new record label... division, called as Nippon Broadcasting System Service, Inc. in order to produce and market music from Japanese artists. The division formally changed its name in 1970 to Pony, Inc. in order to match the brand names it has been using previously. These were "PONYPak" for 8-track Cassettes from 1967, and "PONY" for cassettes from 1968. At this time in 1970 another Japanese record label Canyon Records Inc. was founded. In 1982, Pony ventured into interactive content by producing personal computer game software under the name "Ponyca". In 1984 the company entered license agreements with major overseas companies, MGM/UA, Vestron Video, Walt Disney Home Video and BBC Video, and in 1985, they established offices in New York and London. In 1986, Pony signed licensing agreements with A&M Records and in 1989 with Virgin Records to handle both companies.

Warner Bros. Records was originally established in 1958 as the recorded music division of the American movie studio Warner Bros. Pictures. For most of its existence it was one of a group of labels owned and operated by larger parent corporations. The sequence of companies that controlled Warner Bros. and its allied labels evolved through a convoluted series of corporate mergers and acquisitions from the early 1960s to the early 2000s. Over this period, Warner Bros. Records grew from a struggling minor player in the industry to become one of the top recording labels in the world. In 2003 these music assets were divested by their then owner Time Warner and purchased by a private equity group. This independent company traded as the Warner Music Group , before being bought by Access Industries in 2011.

Rock music is a genre of popular music that developed during and after the 1960s, particularly in the United Kingdom and the United States. The dominance of rock by white, male musicians has been seen as one of the key factors shaping the themes explored in rock music. Rock places a higher degree of emphasis on musicianship, live performance, and an ideology of authenticity than pop music.
