Spencer Mason Hawes is an American basketball player who is currently playing for the Philadelphia 76ers. He was selected by the Sacramento Kings in the 2007 NBA Draft and is the nephew of Steve Hawes, a retired NBA player. Hawes played center at Seattle Prep, an elite college-prep school in... Seattle, WA. The team won the state championship for the 2005–2006 season and Hawes was named the tournament MVP. He might have entered the 2006 NBA Draft had the NBA not enacted a new rule requiring players to wait a year after their class graduates from high school. Spencer Hawes debuted for USA Basketball in April 2006 as a member of the 2006 USA Junior National Select Team that defeated the World Select Team 109–91 at the Nike Hoop Summit in Memphis, Tenn. In the Summer of 2006, Hawes led all scorers with 24 points and added 10 rebounds, contributing to a United States men's team victory over Argentina in the gold medal game of the FIBA Americas under-18 Championship by a score of 104–82. Overall, Hawes averaged 12.0 points and 7.5 rebounds during the tournament. The U.S. team was coached by Hawes' eventual college coach, Lorenzo Romar.

Quincy Douby is an Haitian-American professional basketball player who plays for UCAM Murcia in Spain. At 6'3", 175 lb, Douby played shooting guard for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The Sacramento Kings made him the 19th selection of the 2006 NBA Draft. As a freshman at Rutgers, Douby scored... 35 points to lead the team to an overtime victory in the NIT semifinal game. Douby was named to the Big East All-Rookie Team at the end of his freshman year. Douby improved on his freshman season by averaging 15.1 points a game and 3.38 assists a game, while posting an assist-turnover ratio . He was named Big East player of the Week along with West Virginia's Tyrone Sally the week of November 29. Despite finishing last in the Big East, Rutgers upset Notre Dame in the first round of the Big East Tournament behind the play of Douby. In his junior year, Douby, as guard, was named to the All Big-East team. He led the Big East in scoring with 25.4 points a game, becoming the first Rutgers player to lead the Big East in scoring. In addition, he broke the all-time single season scoring record at Rutgers.

Francisco García is a Dominican professional basketball player who currently plays for the Sacramento Kings of the NBA. A 6'7", 195-pound guard–forward from the University of Louisville, García was selected by the Kings in the first round of the 2005 NBA Draft. He averaged 15.7 points per game as a junior and, along with teammate and best friend Taquan Dean, led his 4th-seeded team to the 2005 Final Four in Saint Louis, Missouri. Forgoing his senior season, García decided to go professional and enter the ranks of the NBA. In his rookie season for the Kings, García appeared in 67 games and averaged 5.6 points per game.

In their 36 NBA seasons since 1976–1977, the Spurs have captured 18 division titles. They have made the playoffs in 21 of the last 22 seasons, and have not missed the playoffs in the 15 seasons since Tim Duncan was drafted by the Spurs in 1997.

As of 2012, the Lakers are the most valuable NBA franchise according to Forbes, having an estimated value of $900 million. The franchise started with the 1947 purchase of a disbanded team, the Detroit Gems of the NBL. The new team began play in Minneapolis, Minnesota, calling themselves the Lakers in honor of the state's nickname, "Land of 10,000 Lakes". The Lakers won five championships in Minneapolis, propelled by center George Mikan, who is described by the NBA's official website as the league's "first superstar". After struggling financially in the late 1950s following Mikan's retirement, they relocated to Los Angeles before the 1960–61 season.

The Utah Jazz is a professional basketball team based in Salt Lake City, Utah. They are currently a part of the Northwest Division of the Western... Conference in the National Basketball Association . The franchise began in 1974 as the New Orleans Jazz, in New Orleans, Louisiana, but the team moved to Utah in 1979 after just five seasons. The Jazz were one of the most unsuccessful teams in the league in their early years, and it would be 10 years before they made a playoff appearance . They would not miss the playoffs again until 2004. During the late 1980s, John Stockton and Karl Malone arose as the franchise players for the team, and formed one of the most famed point guard–power forward duos in NBA history. Led by coach Jerry Sloan, who took over for Frank Layden in 1988, they became one of the powerhouse teams of the 1990s, culminating in two NBA Finals appearances in 1997 and 1998, where they lost both times to the Chicago Bulls, led by Michael Jordan. Both Stockton and Malone moved on in 2003. After missing the playoffs for three consecutive seasons the Jazz returned to prominence under the on-court leadership of point guard Deron Williams.

The Phoenix Suns is a professional basketball team based in Phoenix, Arizona.
