James Griffin Stadium is a 4,367-capacity stadium in Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA. Although it is located on the grounds of Saint Paul Central High... School, it was also home the Concordia University, Saint Paul's football and women's soccer teams until 2008. It also is a venue for three high schools in the Saint Paul public school district who do not have a football stadium of their own; Arlington, Como Park, and Johnson being the three who use this facility. It also hosted Hamline University football for one season while their stadium was rebuilt. The stadium was home to the Minnesota Thunder from 2004 through May 12, 2008. The stadium, colloquially referred to as "The Jimmy" by Thunder supporters and "The Griff" by Concordia fans, was originally named Central Stadium. It was renamed in 1988 for James S. Griffin, the first black police captain in Saint Paul, as well as an athlete and athletic official. After 14 years at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minnesota the Minnesota Thunder moved to James Griffin Stadium. The Thunder cited the increased accessibility, compared to a suburb 20 miles away, and the want to expand its fanbase.

Mickey's Diner is a 50' x 10' classic Art Deco diner car restaurant in Saint Paul, Minnesota. It was prefabricated in New Jersey by the Jerry... O'Mahony Diner Company of Elizabeth, New Jersey, in 1937 serial # 1067, shipped to Saint Paul by rail, and installed downtown just before World War II. It looks much like it did then and is still open 24 hours a day . It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 as the only building of its kind in Minnesota. It is shown in several Hollywood movies, including The Mighty Ducks, Jingle All the Way, and A Prairie Home Companion, where it is featured prominently in the opening and closing scenes. There is an additional location in the West 7th/Sibley neighborhood of Saint Paul that is decorated in the manner of a 1950s diner rather than the factory manufactured diners of the Great Depression and the Second World War. Eastcliff is a 20-room house overlooking the Mississippi River in St. Paul, Minnesota, which serves as the official residence of the president of the... University of Minnesota system. It was first built in 1922 by local lumber magnate Edward Brooks, Sr., and donated to the university by the Brooks family in 1958, beginning its service as the president's official residence in 1960 when O. Meredith Wilson took the position. In 2000, the home was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Today, it is the most-visited public residence in the state , often hosting events five days a week. 6,800 people were recorded attending 159 events in 2005. The building was designed in the Georgian colonial style by Clarence H. Johnston Sr., a close friend of Brooks and an architect who had designed many buildings at the university to fit a master plan by Cass Gilbert. Numerous renovations took place over the years, though repair efforts did not keep pace with wear and tear. In 1988, extensive repairs began on the house, but unforeseen problems caused costs to double.

The St. Anthony Park Branch Library is a branch of the St. Paul Public Library. A Carnegie library built in 1917, it is on the National Register of... Historic Places. In 1999 a rotunda was built on to the back of the building. This new section houses the branch’s children’s collection, one of the largest in Saint Paul. Although one of St. Paul’s smaller library branches at 10,590 square feet , the St. Anthony Park Branch circulated 265,776 items in 2005, making it the third busiest branch in the city. The on-site collection numbered 55,175 items that same year. The branch is open 60.5 hours per week, all seven days. The library branch is considered an icon of the Saint Anthony Park neighborhood. Primary user groups are neighborhood residents, students and faculty from the nearby University of Minnesota’s St. Paul Campus and Luther Seminary, and students from two nearby public schools. One-third of users come from Minneapolis and suburban Ramsey County. Bandana Square is now an office center but was originally designed to be an enclosed shopping center in Energy Park in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The... site is in the National Register of Historic Places. It included a Best Western hotel and conference center, along with several unique restaurants such as the successful Dakota Jazz Club and Restaurant that is now located in Minneapolis. The Dino's Greek fast-food chain, formerly known as Dino's Gyros, also had its first year-round restaurant at Bandana Square . The complex opened in 1984 after several early twentieth century railroad buildings were converted into what was to be a large festival marketplace. Richard Faricy FAIA, the architect, would later recount that it was a remarkable project from the start. The financing and cooperation came from everyone—the railroads, the government, and even private grants. However, the venture was unsuccessful and the facility was transformed into office space.

During his... 21-year baseball career, he played for the Milwaukee Brewers , Toronto Blue Jays , and Minnesota Twins . In 2004, he was elected to the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. He was known for his exceptional hitting and speed. After graduating from Cretin-Derham Hall High School, he was selected in the 28th round of the 1974 free agent draft as a pitcher by the St. Louis Cardinals, but opted instead to attend college at the University of Minnesota. He was a three year starter for the Golden Gophers, earning All American honors as a shortstop for his sophomore and junior years. After his junior year in college, he was selected third overall in the 1978 free agent draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. He signed with the Brewers and began his professional career in Iowa, playing for the Class A Burlington Bees of the Midwest League. Molitor played several positions during his career.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Schulz grew up in Saint Paul. He was the only child of Carl Schulz, who was born in Germany, and Dena Halverson, who was Norwegian. His uncle called him "Sparky" after the horse Spark Plug in Billy DeBeck's comic strip, Barney Google. Schulz loved drawing and sometimes drew his family dog, Spike, who ate unusual things, such as pins and tacks. Schulz drew a picture of Spike and sent it to Ripley's Believe It or Not!; his drawing appeared in Robert Ripley's syndicated panel, captioned, "A hunting dog that eats pins, tacks and razor blades is owned by C. F. Schulz, St. Paul, Minn." and "Drawn by 'Sparky'" Schulz attended St. Paul's Richard Gordon Elementary School, where he skipped two half-grades.

Winfield was born the same day Bobby Thomson hit his pennant-winning home run for the New York Giants, known as "the shot heard 'round the world", and grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. His parents divorced when he was three years old, leaving him and his older brother Stephen to be raised by their mom, Arline, and a huge extended family of aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins and mentors. The Winfield brothers honed their athletic skills in St. Paul's Oxford playground, where coach Bill Peterson was one of the first to take the young Winfield under his wing.

Many of his roles would be uncredited through 1942, which included an uncredited role in the film The Yukon Patrol, which would later be important as it would lead to his best-known starring role. Starting in 1943 he began appearing in credited roles, beginning with his appearance in The Youngest Profession, starring Virginia Weidler. From 1943 through 1949 he would appear in seventeen films, of which seven were uncredited. The 1950s mirrored the 1940s, with him appearing in several films and television programs, at times uncredited. In 1952 he played the co-pilot in Above and Beyond. In 1955, Simmons won his best known role, portraying the lead of Sergeant William Preston in the 1950s television series Sergeant Preston of the Yukon, a spinoff of The Yukon Patrol. Following the end of the series in 1958, he continued to have a successful acting career, mostly with television series appearances, through 1982, with his last role being in the TV show Chips, starring Sue Lyon and Cesar Romero.

Richard Dix was an American motion picture actor who achieved popularity in both silent and sound film. His standard on-screen image was that of the... rugged and stalwart hero. He was born Ernst Carlton Brimmer on July 18, 1893, in St. Paul, Minnesota. There he was educated, and at the desires of his father, studied to be a surgeon. His obvious acting talent in his school dramatic club led him to leading roles in most of the school plays. At 6' 0" and 180 pounds, Dix excelled in sports, especially football and baseball. These skills would serve him well in the vigorous film roles he would go on to play. After a year at the University of Minnesota he took a position at a bank, spending his evenings training for the stage. His professional start was with a local stock company, and this led to similar work in New York City. The death of his father left him with a mother and sister to support. He went to Los Angeles, became leading man for the Morosco Stock Company and his success there got him a contract with Paramount Pictures. He then changed his name to Dix. After his move to Hollywood, he began a career in Western movies.
