The Tito Puente Amphitheatre is a concert amphitheater in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is named after the late mambo musician and percussionist Tito... Puente. It was previously named "Luis Muñoz Marín Amphitheatre" The amphitheatre is a frequent spot for concerts of all kinds of music. It hosts the Puerto Rico Heineken Jazz Festival each year. It is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico adjacent to the Roberto Clemente Coliseum and the Hiram Bithorn Stadium.

El Morro or Port San Juan Light, also known as Faro de Morro or Faro del Castillo del Morro or Puerto San Juan Light, is a lighthouse atop the walls... of Castillo San Felipe del Morro in Old San Juan. It's the first lighthouse built in Puerto Rico. The first Port San Juan Lighthouse was built in 1846 and exhibited a light using five parabolic reflectors. In 1876, a new octagonal iron tower was constructed atop the walls of the fort . The tower was hit by U.S. artillery fire in the Puerto Rican Campaign of the Spanish-American War on May 12, 1898. The lighthouse was rebuilt in 1899 but developed structural problems and was demolished in 1906. The new and current lighthouse was constructed in 1908 as an Moorish Revival style "square tower on castle". Public admission tours into the tower are held, and the Castillo San Felipe del Morro, along with Castillo de San Cristobal and much of the city walls are part of the San Juan National Historic Site also open to the public.

The Normandie Hotel is a hotel located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The hotel originally opened on October 10, 1942. Its design was inspired by the... ocean liner SS Normandie. It features the same art deco design as the ship that inspired it, and the hotel's roof sign is one of the two signs that adorned the top deck of the Normandie but were removed from it during an early refitting. It is a fine example of what came to be known as the Streamline Moderne architecture style. The Normandie Hotel was the brainchild of Puerto Rican engineer Félix Benítez. The engineer met his future wife while on a trip aboard the SS Normandie. As a tribute to his French wife, Moineau, Benítez decided to construct a structure that imitated the lavish settings of the ocean liner. Designed by architect Raúl Reichard , the hotel began construction in 1938. The hotel's exterior was designed to resemble a luxury liner, elongated and curved in front, with portal-shape windows and lights. Inside, the hotel features art deco design, complete with Roman, Egyptian, and French details, high ceilings, and corridors looking down into a central skylighted atrium.

The Capitol of Puerto Rico is located on the Islet of San Juan just outside the walls of Old San Juan. The building is home to the bicameral... Legislative Assembly, composed of the House of Representatives and Senate. The building is located in the Puerta de Tierra sector of San Juan. The Capitol is also commonly referred to as the Palace of Laws . Prior to the establishment of the Capitol, the Legislative Assembly used the Provincial Delegation Building. The idea of constructing a capitol was first introduced by former Resident Commissioner Luis Muñoz Rivera in 1907, and was partly meant to demonstrate some degree of civilian rule in the island, which at the time was a colony of the United States. The project proposed by Muñoz Marín assigned $3 million for the construction and established rules for a contest among architectures to decide which one would do the work. In September 1907, Commissioner of the Interior Laurence Grahame sent the official request for architects through the press and magazines of United States.

José Vicente Ferrer de Otero y Cintrón , best known as José Ferrer, was a Puerto Rican actor, as well as a theater and film director.... He was the first Puerto Rican, as well as the first Hispanic actor to win an Academy Award. Jose Ferrer donated his Academy Award to the University of Puerto Rico as a tribute to his roots. The prolific and distinguished thespian also won numerous Tony Awards: In 1947 he won a Tony Award for his theatrical performance of Cyrano de Bergerac, and in 1952 Ferrer won the Distingished Dramatic Actor Award for The Shrike, plus the Outstanding Director Award for The Shrike, The Fourposter, and Stalag 17. Jose Ferrer's contributions to American Theatre was recognized in 1981 when he was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame, furthur honors came in 1985 when he was awarded the National Medal of Arts. Ferrer was born in the Santurce, Puerto Rico, the son of Maria Providencia Cintron and Rafael Ferrer, an attorney and writer. He studied in the Swiss boarding school Institut Le Rosey.

Phoenix is from a family of performers, including his older brother, the late River Phoenix. Phoenix has ventured behind the camera, directing music videos as well as producing movies and television shows, and has recorded an album, the soundtrack to Walk the Line. He is also known for his work as a social activist, particularly as an advocate for animal rights. Phoenix was born Joaquín Rafael Bottom in Río Piedras, located in the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico, to American parents. He is the third of five children, including River , Rain , Liberty , and Summer . He also has a half-sister named Jodean from a previous relationship of his father's. His father, John Lee Bottom, was a lapsed Catholic from Fontana, California. His mother, Arlyn , was born in The Bronx, New York to Jewish parents whose families emigrated from Russia and Hungary.

Billboard lists and the album featured two Spanish versions of Selena songs "Where Did the Feeling Go? which was called Donde Te Has Ido Amor and "Only Love" called Solo Tu. In 1997, Corretjer released her second album, Emociones . Her third album, 1999's Amar es un Juego earned her a golden album in Puerto Rico, her song De Hoy en Adelante ranked number one on Billboard for more than six weeks. Millie has a very soft, low and angelic singing voice when she sang. Corretjer and her music became well known in Puerto Rico, Latin American countries, Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil and the United States. In 2000, Oscar De La Hoya recorded his first music album. In the studio, while trying to record songs for his album, De La Hoya was finding it difficult to sing with more passion.

Johanna Rosaly is an actress, singer, and television host. Johanna Rosaly was born in an area known as Santurce, a district of San Juan. In 1956 at... the age of eight, she started taking acting lessons with Argentinians Luis A. Negro and Elba Mania, and dancing lessons with Beatriz Trujillo. In 1957, she made her acting debut as a child, on stage, at Teatro Tapia, in Old San Juan, in Mientras los Niños Juegan . That same year, she made her debut on television, with channel 2's children's production of Los Amigos de Pinocho as well as in the film Con Los Pies Descalzos . Rosaly started taking singing lessons when she became a teenager. Then, she participated on stage in zarzuelas, such as El Caserío , and Black el Payaso ; operettas, such as La duquesa del Bal Tabarin , and musicals performed in English, such as My Fair Lady and The Sound of Music. The latter, allowed her to perform on stage with another Puerto Rican acting legend, Camille Carrión.

After performing in the local scene for some time, he was convinced by entertainment personality Orson Bean to move and work in New York City. Juliá, who had been bilingual since his childhood, soon gained interest in Broadway and Off-Broadway plays. He performed in mobile projects, including the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre. Juliá was eventually noticed by Joseph Papp, who offered him work in the New York Shakespeare Festival. After gaining notoriety, he received roles in two television series, Love of Life and Sesame Street. For his performance in Two Gentlemen of Verona, he received a nomination for the Tony Award and won a Drama Desk Award. Between 1974 and 1982, Juliá received Tony Award nominations for Where's Charley?, The Threepenny Opera and Nine.

Bernabé Williams Figueroa Jr. is a former Major League Baseball outfielder and Puerto Rican musician. Growing up, Williams played classical... guitar as well as baseball. He was also active in track and field, winning medals at an international meet at the age of 15. He was one of the world's best 400-meter runners for his age. On his 17th birthday, he signed a professional contract with the New York Yankees organization. Playing for the Yankees' Double-A team in Albany, he continued to develop his athletic skills — particularly as a switch hitter. Although viewed as a great prospect by Yankee management, his rise to the Majors was delayed by the solid outfield that the team had developed in the early 1990s. Williams managed to break into the majors in 1991 to replace the injured Roberto Kelly for the second half of that season. He batted .238 in 320 at bats. He was demoted to the minors until Danny Tartabull was injured, and Williams earned his stay at center by putting up solid numbers. Williams had become the regular Yankees center fielder by 1993. Buck Showalter helped keep him with the Yankees through 1995, when George Steinbrenner sought to trade him.

Deborah Fátima Carthy-Deu is a Puerto Rican actress, host, and former beauty queen. She is known for being the second Miss Universe from Puerto... Rico. The contest was held at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Florida on July 15, 1985. Deborah Carthy-Deu was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico to Ramón Carthy Sanchez, of Irish and of White Puerto Rican decent descent and Vicky Sanz Deu. Her mother directed an academy for ballet and modeling, Academia de Ballet y Modelaje Vicky Sanz, under the name of Vicky Sanz. Her father was a photography director. At age nine she started to take ballet classes at the school her mother directed. She was trained as a classical ballerina. She attended an elementary catholic school and later enrolled in the ninth grade at Commonwealth High School. From age thirteen on she spent her summers in New York City taking dance classes. She later attended the University of Puerto Rico pursued a major in drama. At thirteen she also auditioned for Ballet Concierto and becomes part of the dance company.

Carlos Javier Rivera Masso is a former member of Menudo who joined the band at the height of Menudo's world wide fame. He replaced Rene Farrait and... quickly became a fan favorite with his participation on the albums of Es Por Amor and Vamos A Volar, which was the soundtrack of Charlie's first movie, Una Aventura Llamada Menudo. Charlie began his life as a Menudo the very moment that one of Menudo's members of the group's golden era, Farrait left the group. However, Charlie's presence helped keep the golden era go on for 3 more years, and when he left the group in 1987, he was the last member of the group's golden years to leave. Masso's bandmates included Xavier Serbia, Johnny Lozada, Ricky Melendez, Miguel Cancel, Ray Reyes, Roy Rosselló, Robby Rosa and Ricky Martin among others. He came back to Menudo to complete a tour in Brazil, their 1987 Summer in the Streets tour after Robby Rosa quit the group to introduce new member Ruben Gomez and for their last tour in the Philippines when Ralphy Rodriguez was pulled out of the group by his parents late that year. After he left the band, Charlie moved to Mexico for a very long time, where he was in a few soap operas.

Charlotte Ayanna is an American actress and former Miss Teen USA. Ayanna was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, but moved to Vermont at an early age.... She had a troubled childhood, spending thirteen years in foster homes after her mother, Emma, was judged to be mentally unfit to look after her and her two siblings. In 1994, at age 17, she was adopted into a foster home. She has since become a spokeswoman for foster children. Her first national exposure was in 1993, when she became Miss Teen USA. Charlotte co-authored a book titled Lost in the System, published in 1996, detailing her childhood and subsequent rise to Miss Teen USA. She later changed her last name to "Ayanna", meaning "blessed" in Cherokee. Following her pageant victory, she made guest appearances on television shows including Weird Science and Entourage. She also appeared in the music video for fellow Puerto Rican Ricky Martín's hit She's All I Ever Had. Her film roles include Jawbreaker , The Rage: Carrie 2 , Dancing at the Blue Iguana , Kate & Leopold , Training Day , and Love the Hard Way with Adrien Brody.
