San Marcos

Bobcat Stadium is a 30,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in San Marcos, Texas. It opened in 1981 and is home to the Texas State University Bobcats... football team. It was also home of the San Antonio Riders of the World League of American Football. In 2002 the football field was renamed Jim Wacker Field at Bobcat Stadium in honor of the former Texas State University football coach and director of athletics. The capacity grew to over 16,000 at the beginning of the 2009 football season with the completion of the first phase of a multi-phased expansion. This first phase added a three-tier structure that includes new premium club seating, with 450 seats, and fifteen luxury suites. Major funding came from a donation by Texas State alums Jerry & Linda Fields. This is now named "The Jerry and Linda Fields West Side Complex." Bobcat Stadium is currently undergoing construction at the North Side Complex. Once complete, the seating capacity will be around 30,000. The North Side expansion will feature a Bookstore Fan Shop, and Strutters Gallery.

Texas is the second most populous and the second most extensive of the 50 United States, and the most extensive state of the 48 contiguous United States. The name, based on the Caddo word "Tejas" meaning "friends" or "allies", was applied by the Spanish to the Caddo themselves and to the region of their settlement in East Texas. During the Spanish colonial rule, the area was officially known as the Nuevo Reino de Filipinas: La Provincia de Texas. Antonio Margil de Jesús was known to be the first person to use the name in a letter to the Viceroy of Mexico in July 20, 1716. The name was not popularly used in daily speech but often appeared in legal documents until the end of the 1800s.
