Sanford

Goodall Park is a baseball venue in Sanford, Maine, USA which is home to the Sanford Mainers of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. The park... opened on May 29, 1915. Its first game was between the Sanford Professionals and the Lewiston Pilgrims in front of 1,300 fans. The park is noted for hosting a 1919 baseball game between the Sanford Professionals and the Boston Red Sox, which was Babe Ruth's last game in a Red Sox uniform. Ruth hit a three-run home run to lead the Red Sox to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory. In 1997, the park's grandstand was burnt down by arsonists. After much debate in Sanford as to whether or not to rebuild the park, the grandstand was rebuilt in 2003, largely due to the fundraising efforts of local businessman Jack Allen. A number of English settlements were established along the coast of Maine in the 1620s, although the rugged climate, deprivations, and conflict with the local peoples caused many to fail over the years.
