Saratoga Springs

The Broadway Historic District is located along that street in Saratoga Springs, New York, United States. It has a twofold character. The southern... section is the commercial core of the city, with many of its important public and private buildings, most intact from the its peak days as a resort town in that era. North Broadway is a residential neighborhood with many large Victorian houses built by frequent visitors to the town and its spas and racetrack. In 1979 it was recognized as a historic district and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Since then its boundaries have twice been increased to include some adjacent areas after new information became available about the buildings in them, one of which is a church by Richard Upjohn. Another contributing property, the post office, was later listed on the Register in its own right. The district follows a one-mile stretch of Broadway and North Broadway, from the vicinity of Congress Park to a small portion that overlaps into the Town of Greenfield just north of the city limits near Skidmore College, where the street becomes Glen Mitchell Road.

Charles William Brackett was an American novelist, screenwriter, and film producer. Born on November 26, 1892 in Saratoga Springs, New York, Charles... William Brackett was the son of New York State Senator, lawyer, and banker Edgar Truman Brackett. Brackett's American roots traced back to the arrival of Richard Brackett in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1629, near present-day Braintree, Massachusetts. His mother was Mary Emma Corliss, whose uncle, George Henry Corliss, built the Centennial Engine that powered the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. Brackett was a 1915 graduate of Williams College, and received his law degree from Harvard University. He joined the Allied Expeditionary Force during World War I, and served as vice-consul in St. Nazaire, France. He was awarded the French Medal of Honor. He was a frequent contributor to the Saturday Evening Post, Collier's, and Vanity Fair, and a drama critic for The New Yorker from 1925 to 1929. Brackett married Elizabeth Barrows Fletcher, a descendant of Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower, on June 2, 1919, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Scott Eugene Valentine is an American actor. Valentine was born in Saratoga Springs, New York, the son of Beverly Ann and Edward Eugene Valentine.... He began to pursue acting one year into his college education, attending the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. He completed the three-year program in one and a half years. Valentine had gotten as far as a screen test for the 1981 film The Lords of Discipline, when he was hit by a truck and his career was halted for three years as he recovered. He moved to Los Angeles and landed the role of Nick Moore on the TV series Family Ties. This led to a pilot episode for a spin-off titled The Art of Being Nick; the episode was aired one time. He has appeared since then as a guest actor in several hit television series such as CSI: NY, NewsRadio, and JAG, his first major motion picture, My Demon Lover and numerous made-for-TV and straight-to-video movies. He also voiced The Phantom in Phantom 2040. He portrayed Metallo in an episode of Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman TV series.

Sarah Pedinotti is an American songwriter and musician from Saratoga Springs, NY. She is the lead singer and songwriter of the band Railbird . She... has also released three albums under her own name. In 2005 her album, One Mirror, was listed by Billboard Magazine editor Thom Duffy as one of the ten best new albums of the year. In 2003, Duffy listed her first album You Go to My Head in this category as well. Pedinotti is one of seven in a family of artists. She began writing, singing and playing piano at an early age influenced by an eclectic assortment of music. Her father, David Pedinotti, is also a musician who plays guitar, blues harmonica, and banjo. In the summer of 1996, her parents started a restaurant in Saratoga Springs called One Caroline Street Bistro. Sarah began singing there when she was twelve, sitting in with the nightly featured artists. Over the years she has performed with many artists including members of The Wynton Marsalis Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra; Marcus Printup, Eric Lewis and Ali Jackson.

Helen Badgley was an American child actress of the silent film era. Badgley was born in Saratoga Springs, New York, and by the time she was just 3... years old she was appearing in her first film, Brother Bob's Baby in 1911. In 1912 she appeared in eleven films, and in 1913, that number increased to twenty two. Badgley walked away from Hollywood completely at the age of only 9, having appeared in eighty nine films from 1911 to 1917, the year of her departure. She appears to have lived a normal life afterward, eventually marrying and moving to Phoenix, Arizona, where she was residing at the time of her death on October 25, 1977.
