Robert Michael Gates is the 24th Chancellor of the College of William and Mary and a retired civil servant and university president who served as... the 22nd United States Secretary of Defense from 2006 to 2011. Prior to this, Gates served for 26 years in the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Council, and under President George H. W. Bush as Director of Central Intelligence. Gates was also an officer in the United States Air Force and during the early part of his military career, he was recruited by the CIA. After leaving the CIA, Gates became president of Texas A&M University and was a member of several corporate boards. Gates also served as a member of the Iraq Study Group, the bipartisan commission co-chaired by James A. Baker III and Lee H. Hamilton, that has studied the Iraq War. He was also the first pick to serve as the first Director of National Intelligence , but he declined the appointment in order to remain President of Texas A&M University. Gates accepted the nomination for Secretary of Defense on November 8, 2006, replacing Donald Rumsfeld. He was confirmed with bipartisan support.

John J. Hamre is a specialist in international studies, a former Washington bureaucrat and the current president and CEO of the Center for Strategic... and International Studies, a position he has held with that think tank since April 2000. Hamre is the son of Melvin Sanders and Ruth Lucile Hamre. He earned a B.A. in political science and economics from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota . The following year he was a Rockefeller Fellow at Harvard Divinity School. He earned an M.A. and Ph.D. with distinction from the School of Advanced International Studies , Johns Hopkins University. Hamre served in the Congressional Budget Office , where he became its deputy assistant director for national security and international affairs. In that position, he oversaw analysis and other support for committees in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. In the 1980s, he worked for ten years at the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Kenneth C. Dahlberg is an American engineer and corporate executive. Dahlberg was CEO, chairman of the board, and president of Science Applications... International Corporation . He became CEO on November 3, 2003 and chairman of the board on July 16, 2004. Dahlberg majored in electrical engineering at Drexel University and the University of Southern California, where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees in 1967 and 1969, respectively. In 1967 he started his career with Hughes Aircraft, where he held various engineering, program management and leadership positions and served successively as president of three different corporate divisions. After Raytheon acquired Hughes in 1997, he became president and chief operating officer of Raytheon Systems Company. In 2000, he became executive vice president for business development and president of Raytheon International. Before joining SAIC, he was a vice president at General Dynamics. On June 23, 2009, Dahlberg announced that he would step down as CEO of SAIC on September 20, 2009. His departure is in accordance with SAIC's mandatory retirement policy for executives.
