The Grozny OMON fratricide incident took place on March 2, 2000, when an OMON unit from Podolsk, supported by paramilitary police from the... Sverdlovsk Oblast in armored vehicles, opened fire on a motorized column of OMON from Sergiyev Posad , which had just arrived in Chechnya to replace them. More than 20 were killed and more than 30 injured in friendly fire between the Russian units. Chechen rebels, allegedly helped by the local militia, were initially blamed for the attack, but independent journalists uncovered the facts, forcing the authorities to admit the truth. The Omonovtsy from Sergiyev Posad were travelling in a marked convoy of nine trucks, a bus, and a command car, with no protection by armored vehicles and no helicopter cover, to a guard post in the Podgornoye area of the Staropromyslovsky city district of the Chechen capital, Grozny. Their approach had been reported, but they had not been identified, and they were suspected to be either Chechen guerrillas attempting to infiltrate the city or reinforcements for the pro-Moscow Chechen militia, which was also in conflict with the Sverdlovsk police.

The Battle of Komsomolskoye took place in March 2000 between Russian forces and separatists in Chechnya in the village of Komsomolskoye .... Komsomolskoye, a village of some 5,000 people, was a southern suburb of the Chechen capital Grozny, and a hometown of the autonomous Chechen separatist commander Ruslan Gelayev operating in Shatoysky and Itum-Kalinsky Districts. A large column of exhausted and hungry fighters from Gelayev's Wolf Regiment entered the village on March 4, 2000. The fighters were attempting to break through the cordon set up by Russian forces around the Argun river gorge, following the fall of Grozny in February. Gelayev's forces left the city earlier. They were apparently deceived by Arbi Barayev who had promised to evacuate their wounded with buses that were supposed to be waiting there, luring Gelayev and his troops into a well-prepared federal ambush. Once in Komsomolskoye, the column were blocked by the Russian Internal Troops and SOBR police commandos from Voronezh and Kursk, soon joined by the military.

2004 raid on Grozny was a series of overnight attacks in central Grozny, capital of Chechnya. According to estimates of the investigation group,... 250-400 fighters entered the city on August 21, established their own roadblocks, and simultaneously attacked a number of polling stations and other targets, according to law enforcement sources killing 58 members of police and pro-Moscow militia and five federal soldiers. More than a dozen civilians were also killed.

The 2005 Nalchik attack was a raid by a large group of militants on Nalchik , in the Kabardino-Balkar Republic of southern Russia, on 13 October... 2005. A number of buildings associated with the Russian security forces were targeted. More than 100 people , including at least 14 civilians, were reported to have been killed during the ensuing shooting, which continued into the next day. Many other people were wounded. After the raid, Arsen Kanokov, the newly appointed president of the KBR, admitted publicly that it could have been triggered at least in part by brutal crackdowns by local police. According to the Russian news source Agentura, fighting began about 9 AM on the morning of 13 October, while a statement made by Shamil Basayev on the Kavkaz Center website puts the exact time at 9:14. The initial attack included nine targets: Soon after, a gun store called Arsenal was robbed and three police stations were attacked as well. An attack on the KBR MVD directorate on fighting the organized crime, one more target, was prevented by pure chance.
