The Dallas Mavericks are a professional basketball team based in Dallas, Texas. They are members of the Southwest Division of the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association , and the reigning NBA champions, having defeated the Miami Heat in the 2011 NBA Finals. Forbes Magazine report, they are the fourth-most valuable basketball franchise in the United States, valued at approximately $497 million; the franchise is surpassed in value only by the New York Knicks, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Chicago Bulls Since their inaugural 1980–81 season, the Mavericks have won three division titles , two conference championships , and one NBA Championship . In 1979, businessman Don Carter and partner Norm Sonju requested the right to bring an NBA franchise to Dallas, Texas. The last professional basketball team in Dallas had been the Dallas Chaparrals of the American Basketball Association, which moved to San Antonio in 1973 to become the San Antonio Spurs. At the 1980 NBA All-Star Game, league owners voted to admit the new team, with the team's name coming from the 1957–1962 TV western Maverick.

University of Nevada-Las Vegas is a public, coeducational university located in the Las Vegas suburb of Paradise, Nevada, USA. The 337-acre campus is located approximately 1.5 miles east of the Las Vegas Strip. The institution includes the Shadow Lane Campus, located just east of the University... Medical Center of Southern Nevada, which houses the UNLV School of Dental Medicine, the only dental school in the state of Nevada. In addition, UNLV's law school, the William S. Boyd School of Law, is the only law school in the state. The university has been deemed a "research-intensive university" by The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The first college classes which would eventually become the classes of UNLV were offered as the southern regional extension division of the University of Nevada, Reno in 1951 in a classroom at Las Vegas High School. Groundbreaking on the original 60-acre site was in April 1956, and the university purchased a 640-acre site in North Las Vegas for future expansion. UNLV was officially founded by the Nevada Board of Regents as the Southern Division of the University of Nevada, Reno in 1957.

Waukegan is a city and county seat of Lake County, Illinois. As of the 2011 the city had a total population of 92,046. It is the ninth-largest city in Illinois by population. It is the fifth-largest city on the western shore of Lake Michigan, after Chicago, Milwaukee, Green Bay, and Kenosha.... Waukegan is on the shore of Lake Michigan, about 8 miles south of the border with Wisconsin and 40 miles north of downtown Chicago, at an elevation of about 669 feet above sea level. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 23.1 square miles . 23.0 square miles of it is land and 0.1 square miles of it is water. As of the 2010 census Waukegan had a population of 89,078. The racial composition reported by the population was 46.6% white, 19.2% black, 1.2% Native American, 4.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, and 4.1% reporting two or more races. 53.4% of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race.
