Shenzhen University is a public university established in 1983 located in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. It is accredited by the State Council of the People's Republic of China and is funded by the Shenzhen government. The university took its first enrollment the same year at what Deng Xiaoping called "Shenzhen Speed". Shenzhen University is situated on the coastline of Shenzhen Bay in South China. The total area of the campus is 1.44 square kilometers. It has its own lake which is named Wenshan Lake , spreads across rolling hills covered with trees, an abundance of green space and sculptures.... The establishment of Shenzhen University as a full time comprehensive university highlighted China's Ministry of Education ambition to further develop the critical infrastructure in the Special Economic Zone. Therefore it appointed Professor Zhang Wei, the former vice-president of Tsinghua University, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as the first president of the university to spearhead its development.
