Mile One Centre is an indoor arena and entertainment venue located in downtown St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The centre's name comes... from it being located at the beginning of the Trans-Canada Highway. At full capacity the arena can seat 7,000 people. The arena opened in May 2001, as Mile One Stadium, replacing Memorial Stadium as the home of the St. John's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League . The Maple Leafs left the city in 2005, and Mile One became home to the St. John's Fog Devils of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for three seasons. The arena is now home to the St. John's IceCaps of the AHL. Although not obvious from the centre's name, Mile One Centre is among the many North American sports venues that have raised funds by selling their naming rights. In the case of Mile One, brewing company Molson initially acquired the naming rights for ten years , as well as other privileges such as being the venue's exclusive beer supplier, for $1.5 million. Molson then resold the naming rights to Danny Williams, then-owner of Cable Atlantic , for $600,000.

The Memorial Stadium was a 4,000-seat multi-purpose arena, in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. St. John's previous indoor arena,... Prince's Rink, burned down in 1941, but the demands of the Second World War prevented the city from replacing it until well after the war ended. In 1948, a Citizens' Committee was established to raise funds to build a new arena to be named in honour of Newfoundlanders who lost their lives in that war. Fundraising went slowly until in 1954, St.John's City Council floated a bond to finance the facility, which then became property of the city. It officially opened in 1955. It is the former home of the St. John's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League . The stadium played host to many events, such as an exhibition game featuring the local senior hockey team, the St. John's Caps and the Soviet Red Army. It also played host to two NBA exhibition games and musical acts, as well as Pope John Paul II. Wooden bleachers were used throughout the building's earlier life, and plastic seats were installed later, towards the beginning of the Stadium's AHL tenure. Memorial Stadium closed in 2001, replaced by Mile One Centre.

Catherine Theresa Mary Andrea "Cathy" Jones is a Canadian comedian and writer. Jones was 17 when her older brother, comedian Andy Jones, put in a... good word for her with the Newfoundland Traveling Theatre Company. After a summer touring with this company Cathy joined Tommy Sexton, Greg Malone, Mary Walsh, and Dyan Olsen in Toronto to look for more work in theatre and there in the fall of 1973, they formed the comedy troupe CODCO Andy Jones and Robert Joy joined the company in early 1974. In 1992, Jones, comic Rick Mercer and former CODCO co-stars Mary Walsh and Greg Thomey created a new television series, This Hour Has 22 Minutes. She plays many unique characters on the show, and is known for playing both men and women often at the extreme edges of gender identity. Some of her more well known characters include Mrs. Enid, Babe Bennett, Joe Crow, and one of her personal favorites, 'Love Murphy', who played a love interest with her female character in the short film Outport Lesbian. As of 2005, with the departure of Greg Thomey, Jones is the only remaining original cast member of This Hour Has 22 Minutes.

Mary Cynthia Walsh, CM was born on May 13, 1952, in St. John's, Newfoundland, and is an actress and comedian and social activist. A sufferer of... macular degeneration, she has served from time to time as a spokesperson for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind . Walsh's son Jesse was born in 1989. She has been married to Memorial University of Newfoundland English professor Don Nichol since 2002. Walsh had a difficult childhood with alcoholic parents. She studied theatre in Toronto at Ryerson University but dropped out to work with the CODCO comedy troupe on a series of stage shows, which eventually evolved into a sketch comedy series. The CODCO series ran from 1987 to 1992 on CBC Television. In 1992, she began to work with former co-star Rick Mercer and former CODCO co-stars Cathy Jones and Greg Thomey to create a new television series called This Hour Has 22 Minutes. The show would be a parody of the nightly news and would poke fun at Canadian and international politics. 22 Minutes received strong ratings during its earlier seasons and Mary's character Marg Delahunty became famous for buttonholing politicians and submitting them to satirical interviews.

Greg Malone is a Canadian impressionist and actor. He is well known for the CODCO television series and his impersonations of Barbara Frum, Jean... Chrétien, and Queen Elizabeth II. Prior to CODCO, Malone wrote and performed in a number of shows for CBC Television, including The Wonderful Grand Band, The Root Seller and The S and M Comic Book, and appeared in the film The Adventure of Faustus Bidgood. After the death of his CODCO co-star Tommy Sexton in 1993, he devoted some years of his life to raising awareness of HIV and AIDS. He also directed a docudrama film, The Untold Story of the Suffragists of Newfoundland, in which he appeared as Sir Richard Squires, and acted in the films Rare Birds, Extraordinary Visitor, Messiah from Montreal and Heyday!. He also appeared in a one-man special for the Comedy Channel, Pocket Queen, which won an award at the 1999 Houston International Film and Television Festival. Along with Sexton and their CODCO co-star Andy Jones, Malone was a recipient of the Earle Grey Award, the lifetime achievement award of Canadian television's Gemini Awards, in 2002.

Seamus O'Regan is a Canadian broadcast journalist from Newfoundland and Labrador. He is a correspondent with CTV National News, and a former co-host... of CTV's Canada AM. O'Regan was born in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. At the age of 10, O'Regan became a regional correspondent for CBC Radio's Anybody Home?, producing stories that celebrated the unique accomplishments of local residents - a professor hunting for giant squid to one woman's fight against leukemia. He studied politics at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia and at University College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland. He studied marketing strategies at INSEAD, an international business school near Paris, France. He received his Masters of Philosophy in Politics from the University of Cambridge, studying at Darwin College in Cambridge, England. He has worked as an assistant to Environment Minister Jean Charest in Ottawa and to Justice Minister Edward Roberts in St. John's, and was policy advisor and speechwriter to the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, Brian Tobin. In 2000, O'Regan joined talktv's current affairs program, the chatroom.
