St. Joseph is a city in Stearns County, Minnesota, United States. The town began as a German settlement in 1854, and officially became a city in 1890. The population was 6,534 at the 2010 census. It is home to the College of Saint Benedict. St. Joseph is part of the St. Cloud Metropolitan Statistical Area. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.9 square miles , all of it land. One of the city's major landmarks is The College of St. Benedict. An all-female Catholic college, the college sticks out in the downtown area due to the high spire of the church... itself, and the rotunda and dome of the college. The architecture is different than others, and is clearly visible from miles away. The presence of CSB, and the fact that it is all-female, have major implications for the city's demographics. As of the census of 2000, there were 4,681 people, 1,120 households, and 712 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,517.4 people per square mile .
