The Saint Louis Science Center is a science museum with its facilities in St. Louis, Missouri and the Association of Science and Technology Centers... has rated the Saint Louis Science Center one of the top 5 science centers in the nation. It is among the largest of its type in the US and, like all science centers, is intended to be a place of informal science education for all ages. The Science Center campus is made up of four buildings. The James S. McDonnell Planetarium, found in Forest Park, a newer building across Interstate 64, the Exploradome, an air-supported building next to the main building, and the Taylor Community Science Resource Center. Admission to the Science Center is free through a public subsidy from the Metropolitan Zoological Park and Museum District The Saint Louis Science Center was originally founded by an organization called the Academy of Science of St. Louis as the Museum of Science and Natural History in 1959 at a facility in Clayton's Oak Knoll Park. The Missouri History Museum is located in St. Louis, Missouri in Forest Park. The museum is operated by the Missouri Historical Society and was... founded in 1866. The main galleries of the museum are free through a public subsidy by the Metropolitan Zoological Park and Museum District The Jefferson Memorial Building, built in 1913 with profits from the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, is the current home of the museum. In 1988, the Museum joined the Metropolitan Zoological Park and Museum District and began receiving sales tax revenue. In 2000, the Emerson Center, a significant building addition was completed, boosting attendance and exhibition capacity. The Emerson Center, featuring a ground-to-roof southern glass facade, was designed by Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum, and included substantially more exhibition space, as well as an auditorium, classrooms, a restaurant and gift shop. The Emerson Center was selected by the American Institute of Architects's Committee on the Environment as an example of architectural design that protects and enhances the environment. It is an example of a green museum.

City Museum is a museum, consisting largely of repurposed architectural and industrial objects, housed in the former International Shoe building in... the Washington Avenue Loft District of St. Louis, Missouri. Popular among residents and tourists, the museum bills itself as an "eclectic mixture of children's playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and architectural marvel." Visitors are encouraged to feel, touch, climb on, and play in the various exhibits. The museum attracted over 300,000 visitors in 1999 and over 600,000 in 2007. It has been named one of the "great public spaces" by the Project for Public Spaces, and has won other local and international awards as a must-see destination. City Museum was founded by artist Bob Cassilly, who remains the museum's artistic director, and his then-wife Gail Cassilly. The museum's building was once a shoe factory and warehouse but was mostly vacant when the Cassillys bought it in 1993. Construction began in January 1995 and the building opened to the public on October 25, 1997. The museum has since expanded, adding new exhibits such as MonstroCity in 2002, Enchanted Caves and Shoe Shaft in 2003, and World Aquarium in 2004.

LaWanda Page, born Alberta Peal was an American actress and comedienne best known for her portrayal of Aunt Esther in the 1970s sitcom Sanford and... Son. Raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Page began her career in show business working small nightclubs, billed as "The Bronze Goddess of Fire," an act which included her lighting cigarettes with her fingertips. She performed this feat on an episode of Sanford and Son, in which Fred held a circus in his front yard. Page was convinced by her friend Redd Foxx to become a stand-up comedienne. She recorded several live comedy albums for the Laff Records label in the late 1960s and early 1970s under the LaWanda stage name; One release, a gold-selling album called Watch it, Sucka!, was titled after one of Aunt Esther's catchphrases to capitalize on her newfound TV fame. During her tenure as a stand-up comic, which lasted until the 1990s, she was often called The Queen of Comedy, or in some mainstream circles, The Black Queen of Comedy. Other than the explicit-free Sane Advice, released two years after the cancellation of Sanford and Son, most of Page's albums and stand-up material were raunchy in nature.

Burroughs also collaborated on projects and recordings with numerous performers and musicians, and made many appearances in films. He was born to a wealthy family in St. Louis, Missouri, grandson of William Seward Burroughs, the founder of Burroughs Corporation. Burroughs began writing essays and journals in early adolescence. After leaving home in 1932 to attend Harvard University, he became enamored with contemporary counterculture, and fascinated by the underground society of drug addiction.

David Eric Robertson is an American conductor. He is currently the music director of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, and Principal Guest... Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Robertson was born and raised in Malibu, California, and grew up in a music-loving family. His father was a research scientist at Hughes Laboratory and his mother studied literature, but later had a career as a caterer. In grade school, he played French horn and violin, and first conducted at age 12. He later studied horn, composition, and conducting as a college student at the Royal Academy of Music in London. After his college years, he began to receive conducting offers in Europe and performed often in both symphonic and operatic repertoire. His early career was also given a boost by speaking engagements contracted by the U.S. Information Agency in the Middle East and around the world on the subject of music. In 1985, David Robertson was appointed resident conductor of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. Five years later, in October 1990, the Ensemble Intercontemporain of Paris named him Music Director.

Shari Watson , known as Truth Hurts, is an American R&B singer. She is noted for her funky and powerful vocal style. Her father worked as a... concert promoter, helping to bring acts such as the Pointer Sisters and Phyllis Hyman to St. Louis audiences. Thus exposed to music at an early age, Truth developed a passion for singing. Her mother quickly recognized the girl's talent and signed her up for lessons. By the mid-1980s, Watson got help her cousin, who played with a St. Louis cover band called Mystic Voyage. The cousin brought Watson into the band, and soon she was singing regularly at St. Louis clubs that she wasn't old enough to enter as an audience member. Coming out of high school, Truth turned down an opera scholarship to the University of Chicago so that she could pursue a career in popular music. A break came after she formed an R&B duo called Shug & Dap in the early 1990s with a friend. Shug & Dap released a single called "Anotha Man" on the Giant Records label in 1994; however, Giant went of out business and project was shelved immediately.

Lawrence Peter "Yogi" Berra is a former American Major League Baseball player and manager. He played almost his entire career for the New York... Yankees and was elected to the baseball Hall of Fame in 1972. Berra was one of only four players to be named the Most Valuable Player of the American League three times and one of only six managers to lead both American and National League teams to the World Series. Berra is widely regarded as one of the greatest catchers in baseball history. According to the win shares formula developed by sabermetrician Bill James, Berra is the greatest catcher of all time and the 52nd greatest non-pitching player in major-league history. Berra, who quit school after the eighth grade, has a tendency toward malapropism and fracturing the English language. "It ain't over till it's over" is arguably his most famous example, often quoted. He picked up his famous nickname from a friend, Bobby Hofman, who said he resembled a Hindu holy man they had seen in a movie, whenever Berra sat around with arms and legs crossed waiting to bat, or while looking sad after a losing game.

Scott Stewart Bakula is an American actor, best known for his role as Sam Beckett in the television series Quantum Leap, for which he won the Golden... Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Drama in 1991 and was nominated for four Emmy Awards. He also had a prominent role as Captain Jonathan Archer in Star Trek: Enterprise. Bakula can currently be seen on the TNT series Men of a Certain Age, as Terry, and NBC's Chuck guest starring as Stephen Bartowski. Bakula was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Sally and J. Stewart Bakula, a corporate lawyer. He graduated from Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood, Missouri in 1973. During high school, he was active in soccer, tennis, and theatre. Also during high school, he had the lead roles in Godspell and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at First Presbyterian Church in Kirkwood. He also played Tevye in an Independent Theatre Production of Fiddler on the Roof at Kirkwood High. Bakula attended college at the University of Kansas until his sophomore year. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta while attending the University.

Joseph Henry "T-Bone" Burnett is an American songwriter, musician and producer. In addition to his solo work, Burnett has produced artists such as... the Los Lobos, Counting Crows, Tony Bennett and k.d. lang on the A Wonderful World album and The Wallflowers on Bringing Down the Horse. Burnett won Grammy Awards for the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack and for his work with Alison Krauss and Robert Plant. He was nominated for an Oscar for his songwriting contribution to the film Cold Mountain, and won an Oscar for Best Original Song for "The Weary Kind" from Crazy Heart. He founded the record label DMZ, an imprint of Columbia, and was involved with Mark Heard and Tonio K in the short-lived What? Records. He also oversaw the music for the films Walk the Line and The Big Lebowski. Burnett's songs have been covered by such artists as k.d. lang , Los Lobos, Sixpence None the Richer , Tonio K, Emmylou Harris, Mark Heard , Arlo Guthrie, Warren Zevon, Peter Case, and B. J. Thomas. Burnett was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1948, and raised in Fort Worth, Texas.

Vincent Leonard Price II was an American actor, well known for his distinctive voice and serio-comic attitude in a series of horror films made in... the latter part of his career. Price was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Marguerite Cobb and Vincent Leonard Price, Sr., who was the president of the National Candy Company. His grandfather, Vincent Clarence Price, invented "Dr. Price's Baking Powder", the first cream of tartar baking powder, and secured the family's fortune. Price attended St. Louis Country Day School. He was further educated at Yale in art history and fine art. He was a member of the Courtauld Institute, London. He became interested in the theatre during the 1930s, appearing professionally on stage from 1935. He made his film debut in 1938 with Service de Luxe and established himself in the film Laura , opposite Gene Tierney, directed by Otto Preminger. He also played Joseph Smith, Jr. in the movie Brigham Young , as well as a pretentious priest in The Keys of the Kingdom . Price's first venture into the horror genre was in the 1939 Boris Karloff film Tower of London.

Michael Spinks is a retired American boxer. Nicknamed Jinx, which spawned the nickname of his right hand: The Spinks Jinx, he is the brother of... former heavyweight champion Leon Spinks, and uncle of Cory Spinks, a former welterweight champion and current IBF Light middleweight champion. After compiling a 93-7 record as an amateur, Spinks won the middleweight gold medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics. As a professional, he was undefeated in his first 31 fights, beating such opponents as Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, Marvin Johnson and Eddie Davis en route to becoming undisputed world light-heavyweight champion. Following ten successful title defences, Spinks moved up to heavyweight and as underdog beat the long-reigning IBF heavyweight champion Larry Holmes; in doing so, Spinks became the first reigning light-heavyweight champion to win the heavyweight title. In his final fight, Spinks was knocked out by Mike Tyson, the only defeat of his professional career. Spinks is an inductee of the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame.
