Starbucks

Zev Siegl is an American entrepreneur. In 1971 he, English teacher Jerry Baldwin, and writer Gordon Bowker founded the original Starbucks Coffee store, near Pike Place Market, in Seattle in the U.S. state of Washington. Siegel, a former history teacher, was the only paid employee in the early days... of the company. In 1980 he sold his share of the business, which by then had expanded to four stores.

Jerry Baldwin, along with Gordon Bowker and Zev Siegl, founded Starbucks in Seattle in 1971. Baldwin learned the coffee trade from Alfred Peet, whose store Peet's Coffee & Tea was the inspiration for Starbucks. Starbucks purchased roasted coffee beans from Peet's during its first year of... operation. In 1984 Peet's was put up for sale; Baldwin led a group of investors that purchased the company. In 1987 he sold his interests in Starbucks. Baldwin was Chairman of Peet's until 2001 when Peet's became a publicly traded company; he now holds the title of Director. Baldwin has also served as director and founding chairman of Technical Standards Committee of the Specialty Coffee Association of America, president of Association Scientifique International du Cafe , and chairman of Coffee Quality Institute. He was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Specialty Coffee Association of America. He is a director of TechnoServe, a non-profit NGO working in Latin America and Africa. In 2001, he established Baldwin Wines, a Zinfandel grower and producer in Sonoma Valley, California.

William Warren "Bill" Bradley is an American hall of fame basketball player, Rhodes scholar, and former three-term Democratic U.S. Senator from New... Jersey. He ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic Party's nomination for President in the 2000 election. Bradley was born and raised in a suburb of St. Louis and excelled at basketball from an early age. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and did well academically, was an all-county and all-state basketball player in high school. He was offered 75 college scholarships, but declined them all to attend Princeton University. He earned a gold medal as a member of the 1964 Olympic basketball team and was the NCAA Player of the Year in 1965. After graduating in 1965, he attended Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship, delaying a decision for two years on whether or not to play in the NBA. While at Oxford, Bradley played one season of professional basketball in Europe, and eventually decided to join the New York Knicks in the 1967–68 season, after serving six months in the Air Force Reserve. He spent his entire ten-year professional basketball career playing for the Knicks, winning two championship titles.

He has been a Director of Macy's, Inc. of May Department Stores Co., since August 1996. Mr. Weatherup served as a Director of Pepsi Bottling Group Inc. since January 1999. He served on the Board of Directors of PepsiCo Inc. from 1996 to March 1999.
