The Palace of Europe is a building in located in Strasbourg, France that has served as the seat of the Council of Europe since 1977 when it replaced... the 'House of Europe'. Between 1977 and 1999 it was also the Strasbourg seat of the European Parliament. The first assemblies of the Council of Europe used to take place in the stately, 1880s main building of Strasbourg University, the former Kaiser-Wilhelms-Universität. Between 1950 and 1977, they took place in a provisory concrete building of purely functional architecture, the House of Europe , that stood where there now is the lawn leading up to the Palace of Europe. The architect of this building was Bertrand Monnet. The first stone of the Palace of Europe was laid on 15 May 1972 by the Swiss politician Pierre Graber. The building, designed by architect Henry Bernard, was inaugurated on 28 January 1977. It was built on the site of a tennis court that had been inaugurated in the 1930s and also used to serve as an ice rink in winter. It is square in shape, 106 metres on each side, with a height of 38 metres . Its total working area is 64,000 square metres.

The Barrage Vauban is a weir erected in the 17th century on the river Ill west of the "Petite France" district in Strasbourg. It was constructed... from 1686 to 1700 by the French Engineer Jacques Tarade according to plans by Vauban. Several stories high, it houses sculptures in its main level and a panoramical terrace on its roof.

The Palais Rohan is one of the most important buildings in the city of Strasbourg in Alsace, France. It represents not only the high point of local... baroque architecture, according to widespread opinion among art historians, but has also housed three of the most important museums in the city since the end of the 19th century: the Archaeological Museum , the Museum of Decorative Arts and the Museum of Fine Arts . The city gallery, Galerie Robert Heitz, is also in a side wing of the palace. The palace was commissioned by Cardinal Armand Gaston Maximilien de Rohan, Bishop of Strasbourg, from the architect Joseph Massol and erected between 1731 and 1742 according to plans by Robert de Cotte. It was built on the site of the former residence of the Bishop, the so-called Palatium, which had been built from 1262 onwards. In 1744, Louis XV stayed in the palace, and Marie Antoinette stayed there in 1770. In 1805, 1806 and 1809, Napoléon Bonaparte stayed there and had some of the rooms changed to suit his tastes and those of his wife, Joséphine.

The Sainte-Madeleine Church is a Catholic church in Strasbourg, France, which was built in Gothic style in the late 15th century but largely rebuilt... in a style close to Jugendstil after a devastating fire in 1904. Destroyed again during World War II, the church was re-constructed in its modern form. This is the fourth building dedicated to Mary Magdalene built in the city since the 13th century. The church is classified as a historic monument by a decree of 6 December 1898. The first convent dedicated to Mary Magdalene was built in 1225 on the outskirts of the city of Strasbourg, on the site of the current place de la République. The institution, which welcomed repentant prostitutes, was evacuated and then destroyed around 1470, since the city feared imminent invasion by the armies of the Duke of Burgundy. A new convent was rebuilt in the Krutenau district. The Gothic church of the convent of the sisters of the order of St. Mary Magdalene , completed in 1478, was destroyed by fire in 1904.

Charles Munch was an Alsatian symphonic conductor and violinist. Noted for his mastery of the French orchestral repertoire, he is best known as... music director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Munch was born in Strasbourg, Alsace-Lorraine, German Empire . The son of organist and choir director Ernst Münch, he was the fifth in a family of six children. He was the brother of conductor Fritz Münch and the cousin of conductor and composer Hans Münch. Although his first ambition was to be a locomotive engineer, he studied violin at the Strasbourg Conservatoire. His father Ernst was a professor of organ at the Conservatoire and performed at the cathedral; he also directed an orchestra with his son Charles in the second violins. After receiving his diploma in 1912, Charles studied with Carl Flesch in Berlin and Lucien Capet at the Conservatoire de Paris. He was conscripted into the German army in World War I, serving as a sergeant gunner. He was gassed at Péronne and wounded at Verdun.

Matthieu Tota in Strasbourg, France commonly known as M. Pokora or Matt Pokora, is a French-Polish singer and songwriter. Matthieu Tota, is the son... of professional footballer André Tota and his mother is Brigitte Tota. His parents divorced in 1998 when he was just 13. As a child, he studied at an elementary school in Hohberg, and later at Collège Paul-Émile Victor in Mundolsheim, and Lycée Aristide Briand in Schiltigheim near Strasbourg. As a young man, football became his first ambition and he wanted to be a professional player. But he opted for music. Matthieu Tota explained about the origin of his name Pokora in an interview during the documentary Mis à jour broadcast on 26 August 2010 about him on NRJ 12 television station. He said he was searching for an artistic name and happened to be talking to his grand mother of Polish origin and the importance of humility came up. So he asked her how do we say humility in Polish language and she said "pokora". So Matthieu immediately decided to call himself Pokora. Matt came form his name Matthieu. So he became to be known by his stage name Matt Pokora.

Edward Dannreuther was a German pianist and writer on music resident from 1863 in England. He trained as a musician at the Conservatoire at Leipzig,... where he was a pupil of Ignaz Moscheles. Dannreuther became a champion of Wagner, and founded the London Wagner Society in 1872. Dannreuther became a professor of piano in the Royal College of Music in 1895, a position which he held until his death. An enthusiast for new music, he was an important influence on the composer Hubert Parry. His son Hubert Edward Dannreuther was a British admiral and one of six survivors of the sinking of HMS Invincible.

Adeyto started acting at the age of 8. She moved to Japan in 1998, and has appeared in Japanese TV serials, movies and was regular on major variety shows like Waratte Iitomo and Sma-Station As a photographer and cinematographer Adeyto Rex Angeli works behind the camera. She was responsible for the cover photography for Akino Arai's 2008 single "Kin no nami sen no nami". In 2005, she designed the stage costumes for the La Stella players of the opera La bohème presented the same year in Tokyo. From July 2009, Adeyto became a professor at the University of Creation; Art, Music & Social Work. Adeyto has released music video DVDs, including Greed , and End of the Word, The Mortal, and The Bridge . She was also the lead singer and songwriter for a band named Genetic Sovereign, based in Tokyo, which recorded the albums Luminary in 2004 and Tempus Aurum in 2005.

Jacques Vaillant, French singer born on 8 June 1952 in Strasbourg . Jacques Vaillant is an interpreter of French-language pop songs]. When he was six... years old, he overcame the ordeal of an accident that left him almost completely blind. As he becomes a soprano in his school's choir, in Still, France, he feels a revelation: he already dreams about singing on-stage. In 1968, he is a contestant in the French radio Europe 1's show, "Les numéro 1 de demain", , which is touring via Strasbourg. In 1970, aged 18, Jacques Vaillant travels throughout France, hitch-hiking and living from salesman opportunities. He stops a while in Montpellier, and then in Marseilles. In this town, he meets Charles Humel, a French blind pianist and composer. Now deceased, the latter had composed the famous song Les plaines du far-west for Yves Montand. Next year, Jacques Vaillant arrives in the City of Lights, Paris. In 1975, a guitar in his hands, he sings in the Paris métro. Trocadéro, République, Montparnasse stations: he gathers bigger audiences as days go by.
