Sugar Grove is a far west suburban Chicago village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,909 at the 2000 census. The population was 6,016 in the 2003 special census. The population was 7,958 in the 2005 special census. The 2010 census population is 8,997. Sugar Grove is located at 41°46′21″N 88°26′33″W / 41.7725°N 88.4425°W / 41.7725; -88.4425 . According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.5 square miles , of which, 6.4 square miles of it is land and... 0.04 square miles of it is water. As of May 2011, Sugar Grove has a total area of 10.37 square miles . The Village of Sugar Grove is located within the band of heavy growth at the edge of the Chicago metropolitan area, stretching from approximately the Huntley area in McHenry County to the New Lenox area in Will County. The Village adopted its first Comprehensive Land Use Plan January 12, 1981. As of the census of 2000, there were 3,909 people, 1,272 households, and 1,074 families residing in the village.
