The Union of South American Nations - UZAN, Portuguese: União de Nações Sul-Americanas - UNASUL, Spanish: Unión de Naciones... Suramericanas - UNASUR is an intergovernmental union integrating two existing customs unions: Mercosul and the Andean Community of Nations , as part of a continuing process of South American integration. It is modeled on the European Union. The UNASUR Constitutive Treaty was signed on May 23, 2008, at the Third Summit of Heads of State, held in Brasília, Brazil. According to the Constitutive Treaty, the Union's headquarters will be located in Quito, Ecuador. The South American Parliament will be located in Cochabamba, Bolivia, while the headquarters of its bank, the Bank of the South are located in Caracas, Venezuela. The combined population of the 12-member Union as at 1 July 2010 was estimated at 396,391,032. On 4 May 2010, at an extraordinary heads of state summit held in Campana, 75 km north of Buenos Aires, former Argentine President Néstor Kirchner was unanimously elected the first Secretary-General of UNASUR for a two-year term.

The World Bank differs from the World Bank Group, in that the World Bank comprises only two institutions: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Development Association , whereas the former incorporates these two in addition to three more: International Finance Corporation , Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency , and International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes . The World Bank is one of five institutions created at the Bretton Woods Conference in 1944. The International Monetary Fund, a related institution, is the second. Delegates from many countries attended the Bretton Woods Conference.

The United Nations , is an international organization whose stated aims are facilitating cooperation in international law, international security,... economic development, social progress, human rights, and achievement of world peace. The UN was founded in 1945 after World War II to replace the League of Nations, to stop wars between countries, and to provide a platform for dialogue. It contains multiple subsidiary organizations to carry out its missions. There are 193 member states, including every internationally recognised sovereign state in the world but Vatican City. From its offices around the world, the UN and its specialized agencies decide on substantive and administrative issues in regular meetings held throughout the year.

Laetitia Juliette Griffith was a Dutch Member of Parliament for the liberal People's Party for Freedom and Democracy . Born in Paramaribo, Suriname,... Griffith moved to the Netherlands in 1987 to study law. She graduated in 1992 from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In 1993 she started work at the Dutch Ministry of Justice. In 2000 Griffith joined the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy. After the fall of the First Balkenende cabinet she became a member of the Dutch House of Representatives. On May 16, 2005, she became an alderman in the Amsterdam municipal council. On May 19, 2006, it was announced that Griffith would succeed Ayaan Hirsi Ali as parliamentarian. On March 15, 2010, she announced her retreat from politics.

Reginald "Regi" Waldi Blinker is a retired Dutch footballer of Surinamese extraction who played as a left winger. During his career, he was also... known for his dread-locked hairstyle, and played three years in Scotland with Celtic, after notably representing Feyenoord. Born in Paramaribo, Suriname, Blinker began his career with Feyenoord Rotterdam in 1986. He stayed at De Kuip for 10 seasons, including one on loan at FC Den Bosch, and formed an efficient winger partnership with Gaston Taument . On 4 March 1996, Blinker joined Sheffield Wednesday for £275,000, scoring a brace on his debut, a 2–3 away defeat against Aston Villa, instantly becoming a crowd favorite. At the peak of his career in England, he was set to earn a sponsorship deal with a major sunglasses manufacturer. Much to the amusement of the British press, the deal was scrapped when it was revealed Blinker had been mistaken for Edgar Davids, a footballer renowned for his use of eyewear; he moved to Celtic in part-exchange for Paolo di Canio in August 1997, and was coached at the club by Feije legend Wim Jansen.

Denise Jannah, real name: Denise Johanna Zeefuik - Dutch Suriname-born jazz vocalist, first Dutch jazz soloist to be signed by the Blue Note... recording label. She was born in Paramaribo. She is a honey-voiced jazz singer, with inventive phrasing and impeccable diction, who ranks alongside the late, great ladies of jazz such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Carmen McRae. She lives and records in the Netherlands, where she is established as one of the country's top jazz singers, and has twice won the Edison Award . She has several CDs to her credit. She has appeared at major jazz festivals throughout the world, and has performed at many prestigious functions, including special performances for President Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela, and Queen Beatrix. Among her recent performances, she sung at a special concert at Cranleigh Arts Centre, Cranleigh, Surrey, UK on 3 March 2007, accompanied by Amina Figarova. Denise Jannah has also been accompanied by the pianist Erik van der Luijt.

Brazil was a colony of Portugal from the landing of Pedro Álvares Cabral in 1500 until 1815, when it was elevated to the rank of kingdom and the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves was formed.
