The school is named for George Holmes Maxwell, a Syracuse alumnus and Boston patent attorney who donated $500,000 to the university in 1924 to establish a school which would aim to "to cull from every source those principles, facts, and elements which, combined, make up our rights and duties and our value and distinctiveness as United States citizens". The Maxwell School was dedicated on October 3, 1924, and was the first program to offer a graduate professional degree in public administration.

Syracuse University College of Law , founded in 1895, is a Juris Doctor degree-granting law school of Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. It... is one of only four law schools in Upstate New York (the other three being Albany, Buffalo, and Cornell. Syracuse was accredited by the American Bar Association in 1923 and is a charter member of the Association of American Law Schools. As of the 2011-2012 academic year, 658 students were enrolled in the College of Law. Syracuse is an emerging leader in the relatively novel field of National Security Law through the Institute for National Security and Counterterrorism. The College of Law is also home to the New York State Science & Technology Law Center. It also maintains a chapter of the Order of the Coif, of which only 80 of the more than 190 ABA accredited law schools are a member. The College of Law offers joint degree programs with, among others, the top-ranked Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, the highly-regarded S.I. The Martin J. Whitman School of Management is the business school of Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. Named after Martin J. Whitman, an... alumnus and benefactor of the school, the school was established in 1919. The Whitman School offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees as well as executive degree programs. The school was established at Syracuse University in 1919 as the College of Business Administration. By 1920, the school was the 16th school in the United States to receive accreditation from Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business . In 1948, the MBA program was established as the Army Comptrollership Program. After a major donation from 1949 graduate Martin J. Whitman in June 2003, a new state-of-the-art building was constructed and the university renamed the School of Management after him. The Whitman MBA program may be completed three different ways: Traditional 2-year program The full-time MBA program comprises a curriculum of 54 credits. During the summer between the first and second academic years, students complete a four-month internship or participate in special international internships co-sponsored by Syracuse University Abroad.

The Rose, Jules R., and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music is one of five areas of the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University.... The Setnor School offers both undergraduate and graduate study options in a larger university setting. Undergraduate programs include bachelor of music degree programs in composition, music education, music industry, and the performance areas of organ, percussion, piano, strings, voice, and wind instruments; a bachelor of science degree in the Bandier Program for Music and the Entertainment Industries; and a bachelor of arts degree in music for students who wish to devote more time to liberal arts studies. Graduate programs are offered in composition, conducting, music education, and the performance areas of organ, percussion, piano, strings, voice, and wind instruments. The Setnor School offers students classical training with an inquisitive, open approach to world and popular styles and close, supportive relationships with active, professional faculty, some of whom are members of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, a regional professional orchestra.

Tobias Jonathan Ansell Wolff is an American author. He is known for his memoirs, particularly This Boy's Life , and his short stories. He has also... written two novels. Wolff was born in 1945 in Birmingham, Alabama. After attending Concrete High School in Concrete, Washington, Wolff applied to, and was accepted by, The Hill School under the self-embellished name Tobias Jonathan von Ansell-Wolff, III. He was later expelled. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War era. He holds a First Class Honours degree in English from Hertford College, Oxford and an M.A. from Stanford University. In 1975 he was awarded a Wallace Stegner Fellowship in Creative Writing at Stanford. Wolff is the Ward W. and Priscilla B. Woods Professor in the School of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University, where he has taught classes in English and creative writing since 1997. He also served as the director of the Creative Writing Program at Stanford from 2000 to 2002. Prior to his current appointment at Stanford, Wolff taught at Syracuse University from 1980 to 1997.
