Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, often referred to simply as Laguna Beach, is a reality television series which originally aired on MTV from September 28, 2004 until November 15, 2006. It documents the lives of several teenagers living in Laguna Beach, an affluent seaside community located in Orange County, California, United States. It differs from the usual reality show in that it is structured as a traditional narrative rather than a... straightforward observant documentary-style, which reality television purportedly attempts to portray. Having been relatively successful, the series produced an even more popular spin-off called The Hills, which follows the life of one of the Laguna Beach characters Lauren Conrad after she leaves Laguna and pursues a fashion career in Los Angeles. During initial development of the show, ideas were to create a reality show which followed the lives of several wealthy teens. MTV producers thought about setting the show in Beverly Hills, mimicking the successful fictional 1990s FOX television show Beverly Hills, 90210.
