Brighton /ˈbraɪtən/ is the major part of the city of Brighton and Hove in East Sussex, England on the south coast of Great Britain. Modern Brighton forms part of the Brighton/Worthing/Littlehampton conurbation stretching along the coast, with a population of around 480,000. Brighton has two universities and a medical school . In the Domesday Book, Brighton was called Bristelmestune and a rent of 4,000 herring was established.
