Lee H. Katzin was born in Detroit, Michigan, United States, and became a TV director in the late 1960s, including episodes for Bonanza, Mission: Impossible and Police Story. He also directed the 1971 movie, Le Mans. In 1972, he directed the film The Salzburg Connection, which starred Barry Newman... and Anna Karina. In 1975, he directed the launch episode "Breakaway", and other early episodes, of the Gerry Anderson live-action series Space: 1999. He was the creator of the short-lived American science fiction television series Man from Atlantis in 1977 and the following year wrote the pilot episode for a comedy, Zuma Beach with Halloween director John Carpenter, although this was never commissioned as a series. He also directed many episodes of the 1980s television series MacGyver. He died of cancer in 2002 in Beverly Hills, California.
