Stewart Terence Herbert Young was a British film director best known for directing three films in the James Bond series, Dr. No , From Russia with Love , and Thunderball . The son of a Police Commissioner of the Shanghai Municipal Police, Young was born in Shanghai, China and was public-school... educated. Like the fictional James Bond, he read oriental history at St Catharine's College in the University of Cambridge. Commissioned in the Irish Guards, Young was a tank commander during World War II where he participated in Operation Market Garden in Arnhem, Netherlands. Young began his film career as a screenwriter in British films of the 1940s, working, for example, on Dangerous Moonlight . In 1946, he was a co-director with Brian Desmond Hurst of Theirs is the Glory, which recaptured the fighting around Arnhem bridge. Arnhem, coincidentally, was home to the adolescent Audrey Hepburn. During the filming of Young's film, Wait Until Dark, Hepburn and Young would joke that he was shelling his favorite star without even knowing it. Young also directed an account of the Guards Armoured Division They Were Not Divided.

Respected for his awarded drama Chronicle of Poor Lovers , he has proven a solid director of genre films, notably crime films such as The Violent Four and Crazy Joe or erotic comedy Roma Bene . Christian-Jaque was a French filmmaker. From 1954 to 1959, he was married to actress Martine Carol, who starred in several of his films including "Lucrece Borgia" , "Madame Du Barry" , and "Nana" . His 1946 film A Lover's Return was entered into the 1946 Cannes Film Festival. Christian-Jaque won... the Best Director award at the 1952 Cannes Film Festival for his popular swashbuckler Fanfan la Tulipe. At the 2nd Berlin International Film Festival, he won the Silver Bear award for the same film. Christian-Jaque began his motion picture career in the 1920s as an art director and production designer. By the early 1930s, he had moved into screenwriting and directing. He continued working into the mid-1980s, though from 1970 on most of his work was done for television. Christian-Jaque was born in Paris. He died at Boulogne-Billancourt in 1994.
