The Flight into Egypt

The Flight into Egypt is a painting by the Italian Baroque painter Annibale Carracci. Dating from c. 1604, it is housed in the Galleria Doria Pamphilj of Rome. The painting was commissioned in 1603 by Cardinal Pietro Aldobrandini for the family chapel in his palace in Rome, later known as Palazzo Doria Pamphilj. The commission include six paintings in six lunettes, which were executed by Carracci and his pupils . The work is considered one of Carracci's most important contributions to the veduta genre, which was a model for Domenichino, Nicolas Poussin, Gaspard Dughet and others.
