The Green Wave

The Green Wave

"The Green Wave" is a painting by Claude Monet. The handling of paint and composition, especially the high horizon line, in this early seascape by Monet are clearly indebted to Manet's two depictions of American warships, "The 'Kearsarge' at Boulogne" and "The Battle of the 'Kearsarge' and the 'Alabama'" , which were exhibited in Paris in 1865 and 1867. Monet later added the date 1865, which is incorrect, as he visited the Normandy coast in 1866 and again in 1867.
