The Mayor of Castro Street is a book written by Randy Shilts telling the story of Harvey Milk. It was first published by St. Martin's Press in 1982. In 2009, Audible.com produced an audio version of The Mayor of Castro Street, narrated by Marc Vietor, as part of its Modern Vanguard line of audiobooks. In April 2007, Participant Media closed a deal with Warner Independent to turn the book into a film. The adaptation would be unrelated to the Academy Award-winning film Milk. But the film entered development hell, and by March 2012 had not been made.
