The Mystery of Edwin Drood is the final novel by Charles Dickens. The novel was unfinished at the time of Dickens' death and his ending for it remains unknown. Though the novel is named after the character Edwin Drood, the story focuses on Drood's uncle, choirmaster John Jasper, who is in love with his pupil, Rosa Bud. Miss Bud is Drood's fiancée who has also caught the eye of the high-spirited and hot-tempered Neville Landless, who comes from Ceylon with his twin sister, Helena. Landless and Drood take an instant dislike to one another. Drood later disappears under mysterious... circumstances. Dickens died before he could finish the mystery. 'Dickens left no clues in the notes he left behind,' Dickens collector Craig Cabell says, 'but there was meant to be a clue on the cover of the original parts of the story when first released in 1870. True or not, much centres around Rochester Cathedral and when one notices a trap door in the ceiling of the cathedral - which can be seen to this day - one cannot but speculate if Drood is hiding up there, waiting to take the hand of his beautiful love.
