The People Speak

Anthony Arnove is a freelance literary editor, agent and activist based in Brooklyn. He is on the board of directors of Haymarket Books, and is active in the National Writers Union and the International Socialist Organization. Arnove was born in 1969. He earned BA from Oberlin College, and a MA... and Ph.D. from Brown University, Rhode Island, where he studied in the Modern Culture and Media Program, and joined the International Socialist Organization. He worked for seven years as an editor and publisher at South End Press before becoming a freelance editor and writer moving to New York. Arnove is best known for his books on Iraq and the Iraq War. Arnove is the author of the book Iraq: The Logic of Withdrawal, published in hardcover by the New Press and in paperback by Haymarket Books. Arnove toured the country promoting the book in spring 2006 as part of the New Press' "End the War Tour". Arnove is also the editor of Iraq Under Siege, published by South End Press, the co-editor with Howard Zinn of Voices of a People's History of the United States, published by Seven Stories Press, and the editor of The Essential Noam Chomsky, published by the New Press.

Chris Moore is an American film producer. Moore received a BA in American History from Harvard University. Moore has produced the American Pie films, Reindeer Games starring Ben Affleck, Joyride, The Adjustment Bureau , and the Academy Award-winning Good Will Hunting. He was co-creator of... HBO’s Project Greenlight. In addition, Moore executive produced the documentary Pop and Me. In 2009, Chris directed his first feature film, Kill Theory. Moore also co-directed and executive produced The People Speak, a documentary feature film that uses dramatic and musical performances of the letters, diaries, and speeches of everyday Americans, based on Historian Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States”.

Howard Zinn was an American historian, academic, author, playwright, and social activist. Before and during his tenure as a political science professor at Boston University from 1964-88 he wrote more than 20 books, which included his best-selling and influential A People's History of the United... States. He wrote extensively about the civil rights and anti-war movements, as well as of the labor history of the United States. His memoir, You Can't Be Neutral on a Moving Train, was also the title of a 2004 documentary about Zinn's life and work. Zinn was born to a Jewish immigrant family in Brooklyn. His father, Eddie Zinn, born in Austria-Hungary, emigrated to the U.S. with his brother Samuel before the outbreak of World War I. Howard's mother Jenny Zinn emigrated from the Eastern Siberian city of Irkutsk. Both parents were factory workers with limited education when they met and married, and there were no books or magazines in the series of apartments where they raised their children. Zinn's parents introduced him to literature by sending 10 cents plus a coupon to the New York Post for each of the 20 volumes of Charles Dickens' collected works.
