The Poseidon Adventure

Ronald Elwin Neame CBE BSC was an English film cinematographer, producer, screenwriter and director. Neame's parents were the photographer Elwin Neame and the actress Ivy Close. He studied at the University College School and Hurstpierpoint College. His father died in 1923, and Neame took a job... with the Anglo-Persian Oil Company as an office boy. Later, through his mother's contacts in the British film industry, Neame started at Elstree Studios as a messenger boy. He was fortunate enough to be hired as an assistant cameraman on Blackmail , the first British talkie, directed by a young Alfred Hitchcock. Neame's own career as a cinematographer began with the musical comedy Happy , and he continued to develop his skills in various "quota quickies" films for several years. His credits as cinematographer include Major Barbara , In Which We Serve , This Happy Breed , and Blithe Spirit . His camera work on One of Our Aircraft Is Missing got him an Academy Award nomination for Best Special Effects in 1943. Neame formed a production company, Cineguild, with David Lean and Anthony Havelock-Allan.

Irwin Allen was a television and film director and producer nicknamed "The Master of Disaster" for his work in the disaster film genre. He was also notable for creating a number of television series. Allen was born in New York City. His film credits include the 3-D film Dangerous Mission , The... Animal World , The Story of Mankind , The Big Circus , The Lost World , Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea , and Five Weeks in a Balloon . In the 1970's, he produced popular disaster films including The Poseidon Adventure and The Towering Inferno . In the 1960s, Allen moved into television as "the most successful science-fiction producer of the decade", and was responsible for series such as: Allen also produced several TV movies, such as City Beneath the Sea, which recycled many props and models from Voyage, Lost in Space, and Man From The 25th Century. Both were intended as pilots for new TV series projects, but his small-screen success from the 1960s largely eluded him in the 1970s.
