Judy Davis is an Australian actress best known for her roles in Husbands and Wives, Barton Fink, A Passage to India and in the TV miniseries Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows. Davis first came to attention for her role as the fiery Sybylla Melvyn in the 1979 film My Brilliant Career. She... has won many acting awards, including two Golden Globe Awards, three Emmy Awards, one BAFTA and seven AFI Awards. She has also been nominated twice for an Academy Award. Davis was born in Perth and had a strict Catholic upbringing. She was educated at Loreto Convent and the Western Australian Institute of Technology, and graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art in 1977. She has been married to actor and fellow NIDA graduate Colin Friels since 1984. They have two children. First coming to prominence for her role as Sybylla Melvyn in the coming-of-age saga My Brilliant Career , for which she won BAFTA Awards for Best Actress and Best Newcomer, she also played the lead in such Australian New Wave classics as Winter of Our Dreams and Heatwave .

The Starter Wife is a USA Network television series based on the miniseries of the same name, and based on the novel by Gigi Levangie Grazer. It premiered on October 10, 2008. The series stars Debra Messing as Molly Kagan, the now ex-wife of former studio executive Kenny Kagan. Picking up where the mini-series left off, Molly finds herself trying to carve out a new life as a single mother raising her daughter Jaden in the middle of the... dysfunctional world surrounding the film industry. Molly has vowed to swear off men after the failure of her "happy ending" relationship with a homeless man, and soon finds herself developing as a writer even as her relationship develops with her writing group leader. The series ran one season, and was cancelled by USA in February 2009. In regard to the show's cancellation, Debra Messing, at a conference in 2012, told reporters, "We were finishing the first season right when the economy collapsed." She added, "We were the most expensive show the network had ever hadI heard rumors about we doing half the original budget , but that couldn't work because it was about the brand, and that luxurious world.
