The Woman Who Rides Like a Man

George Cooper is a character invented by Tamora Pierce, from many books set in the fictional realm of Tortall, and the descendant of Beka Cooper,... heroine of the Provost's Dog trilogy. He first appears in Alanna: The First Adventure. He is approximately 7 years older than Alanna of Trebond, but he has already become the Rogue, the King of Thieves in the realm of Tortall, by age 17. He later becomes a good friend of Alanna and teaches her to fight barehanded and with a dagger. He is also the first person in Corus to learn she is really a girl and shares her first kiss. George falls in love with Alanna in the second book of the series, though she is in a relationship with Prince Jonathan of Conte until The Woman Who Rides Like a Man, when they part ways. It is not until after Alanna and Jonathan break up in the third book that she and George begin a relationship. In the final book of the series Alanna accepts George's proposal of marriage. He is also made Baron of Pirates Swoop, in an effort by King Jonathan to make him respectable. By the time of Wild Magic George and Alanna have had three children: Thom, and twins, Alan and Alianne.

Fiction is the form of any narrative or informative work that deals, in part or in whole, with information or events that are not factual, but... rather, imaginary—that is, invented by the author. Although fiction describes a major branch of literary work, it may also refer to theatrical, cinematic or musical work. Fiction contrasts with non-fiction, which deals exclusively with factual events, descriptions, observations, etc. . Realistic fiction, although untrue, could actually happen. Some events, people, and places may even be real. This is termed "faction". It can be possible that in the future imagined events could physically happen. For example, Jules Verne's novel From The Earth To The Moon, which at that time was just a product of his rich imagination, was proven possible in 1969, when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on the Moon, and the team returned safely to Earth. Realistic fiction strives to make the reader feel as if they're reading something that is actually happening—something that though not real, is described in a believable way that helps the reader make a picture as if it were an actual event.

Children's literature as such probably started in the 17th century; it is generally believed that before then books were written mainly for adults.... Barbara Newhall Follett wrote four books, beginning with a novel called The House Without Windows at the age of nine; when the manuscript was destroyed in a fire, she rewrote it from memory.

Speculative fiction is an umbrella term encompassing the more fantastical fiction genres, specifically science fiction, fantasy, horror, supernatural... fiction, superhero fiction, utopian and dystopian fiction, apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction, and alternate history in literature as well as related static, motion, and virtual arts. Speculative fiction as a category ranges from ancient works to both cutting edge, paradigm-changing and neotraditional works of the 21st century. Speculative fiction can be recognized in works whose authors' intentions or the social contexts of the versions of stories they portrayed is now known, since ancient Greek dramatists such as Euripides whose play Medea seems to have offended Athenian audiences when he fictionally speculated that shamaness Medea killed her own children instead of their being killed by other Corinthians after her departure, and whose Hippolytus, narratively introduced by Aphrodite, Goddess of Love in person, is suspected to have displeased his contemporary audiences because he portrayed Phaedra as too lusty.
