Thomas & the Magic Railroad is a 2000 British/American feature film based on the TV series Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends, The Railway Series by the Rev. W. Awdry, and the United States TV series Shining Time Station. The film was co-produced by Gullane Entertainment and the Isle of Man Film Commission. It was written, produced and directed by Britt Allcroft. The film received negative reviews. It was first released in the U.K. where critics were unfamiliar with the characters from Shining Time Station and accused the film of "Americanising" Thomas. It received better reviews in the... U.S. but even in this it did not approach the praise given to the original Shining Time Station, which was an award-winning show . It currently holds a 19% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Since the film's release, various specials based on Thomas and Friends have been released, although they are not directly related to this film. In 2007, it was revealed that Britt Allcroft had the released film drastically cut from the original script that she had written and shot against her will.
