The Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi is an opera house located in Trieste, Italy and named after the composer Giuseppe Verdi. Privately constructed, it... was inaugurated as the Teatro Nuovo to replace the smaller 800-seat "Cesareo Regio Teatro di San Pietro" on 21 April 1801 with a performance of Johann Simon Mayr's Ginevra di Scozia. Initially, the Nuovo had 1,400 seats. By the end of the 18th century, the need for a new theatre in Trieste became evident. Its main theatre, the Teatro di San Pietro, had become increasingly inadequate and finally closed its doors in 1800. A proposal to the Austrian Chancery from Giovanni Matteo Tommasini to build a private theatre had existed since 1795 and, in June 1798, a contract was drawn up whereby annual funding would come from the municipality and Tommasini would hold the rights to several boxes and the rights to sell others. Gian Antonio Selva, the architect of the La Fenice in Venice, was engaged, and he designed a classic horseshoe-shaped auditorium.

Trieste Cathedral , dedicated to Saint Justus, is the cathedral and main church of Trieste, in northern Italy. It is the seat of the Bishop of... Trieste. The first religious edifice on the site was built in the 6th century on some Roman propylaea, using part of the existing structure. Perhaps the entrance to a monument, this was commonly known as the Capitoline Temple, as a pyramidal altar with the symbols of the Capitoline Triad had been found inside it. Of the hall there remains part of the mosaic floor, integrated into the present-day floor, which contains markings of the outer walls of the early Christian building. Soon after it was opened for worship, the church was destroyed in the Lombard invasion. Between the 9th and 11th centuries, two basilicas were erected on the ruins of the old church, the first dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption and the second, the cathedral, to Saint Justus . The original design of the latter building was subsequently lengthened.

The Miramare Castle is a 19th century castle on the Gulf of Trieste near Trieste, northeastern Italy. It was built from 1856 to 1860 for Austrian... Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian and his wife, Charlotte of Belgium, later Emperor Maximilian I and Empress Carlota of Mexico, to a design by Carl Junker. The castle's grounds include an extensive cliff and seashore park of 22 hectares designed by the Archduke. The grounds were completely re-landscaped to feature numerous tropical species of trees and plants. The Castle of Miramare and its Park were built by order of Ferdinand Maximilian , of the House of Habsburg - younger brother of Franz Joseph, Emperor of Austria. In 1850, at the age of eighteen, Maximilian came to Trieste with his brother Charles and, immediately afterwards, he set off on a short cruise toward the near East. This journey confirmed his intention to sail and to get to know the World. In 1852 he was appointed Officer and in 1854 he became Commander in Chief of the Imperial Navy.

Stadio Giuseppe Grezar, was a multi-use stadium in Trieste, Italy. It was inaugurated in 1932 as the Stadio Littorio and was initially used as the... stadium of U.S. Triestina Calcio matches. The capacity of the stadium was 8,000. It hosted the match between Czechoslovakia and Romania during the 1934 FIFA World Cup. In 1943 it was renamed Stadio di Valmaura. It was renamed again in 1967, in honour of Giuseppe Grezar, a native son who was a member of the Grande Torino squad that perished in the Superga air disaster of 1949. It was replaced by Stadio Nereo Rocco in 1992.

Enrico Rava , is a prolific jazz trumpeter and arguably one of the best known Italian jazz musicians. He originally played trombone, changing to the... trumpet after hearing Miles Davis. His first commercial work was as a member of Gato Barbieri's Italian quintet in the mid-1960s; in the late 1960s he was a member of Steve Lacy's group. In 1967 Rava moved to New York City, and one month later became a member of the group Gas Mask, a group that had one LP on Tonsil Records in 1970. He has played with artists such as Carla Bley, Jeanne Lee, Paul Motian, Lee Konitz and Roswell Rudd. Chiefly an exponent of bebop jazz, Enrico Rava has also played successfully in avant-garde settings. His style may partly recall Kenny Wheeler's in its spareness and lightness of tone, albeit Rava's is harmonically simpler. In the 1970s and 1980s he worked with Pat Metheny, Michel Petrucciani, John Abercrombie, Joe Henderson, Richard Galliano, Miroslav Vitouš, Andrea Centazzo, Joe Lovano, Gil Evans and Cecil Taylor.

Fabio Tordiglione is an Italian singer who has sung with many music bands including Rhapsody of Fire, Labyrinth, Ayreon, Vision Divine and Athena,... and as a touring lead singer with American band Kamelot. Lione started making eurobeat songs in 2000, but has decided to continue his solo career with and work with Rhapsody of Fire. Lione was born in Pisa. His career started in 1990 at the age of 17 when he began to sing with a small rock and roll underground group who played classics of 1950s and 1960s similar to Elvis Presley's songs. He had the passion for groups such as Queensrÿche, Fates Warning, Crimson Glory, which inspired him to form his own heavy metal band. His musical activities continued with a young group from Pisa, named Athena. They were a progressive metal band with their own unique style and challenged various expressions. Lione recorded a demotape with Athena and it was his first experience in a metal band. Lione did twenty shows with the band, but after two years, he left the band in 1994. Athena made their first album in 1995 .

George Dolenz was an American film actor born in Trieste , in the city's Slovene community. After appearing in small parts in minor movies, Dolenz... became leading man under contract to RKO Pictures under Howard Hughes, but soon returned to smaller parts for other studios, including MGM's The Last Time I Saw Paris as the husband of Donna Reed's character. He appeared in the 1956 ITC Entertainment series The Count of Monte Cristo as the title character. On April 21, 1958, Dolenz played Count Peter Von Gilsa in the episode "The Outlander" of the NBC western television series The Restless Gun. Gloria Talbott plays Sophie Wilmer, a young woman who inherits her father's saloon and hotel in Prairie City, Kansas, a town temporarily under the control of unruly former Confederates from Texas. Dolenz's character is Sophie's romantic interest and a former soldier from Europe who speaks out against the former Confederates, led by a former army officer. John Payne's character, Vint Bonner, arrives in town to guarantee the peace.

Alessandro Staropoli is the keyboard player, composer and co-founder of the Italian symphonic metal band Rhapsody of Fire. He does the orchestral... arrangements in all the band's songs. Alex and Luca met in 1990 during a course in mental techniques , and together they started the band Rhapsody in 1993. When Alex was a child he was mainly interested in nature - mountains, forests and lakes. At the age of nine he got his first piano and began to study its basics, and at the age of fourteen he bought his first electric guitar. After meeting Luca, but before the creation of Rhapsody of Fire, he bought a Korg 01/W pro keyboard, a model he still uses. Alex has started working on his first solo album with his brother Manuel, who is also featured on every Rhapsody of Fire album playing the baroque recorder and flutes. He has stated that he is writing the songs together with Manuel, and that he is aiming for an album using more heavy metal elements than the orchestral style of Rhapsody of Fire.

Victor de Sabata was an Italian conductor and composer. He is widely recognized as one of the most distinguished operatic conductors of the... twentieth century, especially for his Verdi, Puccini and Wagner. He is also acclaimed for his interpretations of orchestral music. Like his near contemporary Wilhelm Furtwängler, de Sabata regarded composition as more important than conducting but achieved more lasting recognition for his conducting than his compositions. De Sabata has been praised by various authors and critics as a rival to Toscanini for the title of greatest Italian conductor of the twentieth century, and even as "perhaps the greatest conductor in the world". De Sabata was born in the city of Trieste, at the time part of Austria-Hungary, but now in Italy. His Roman Catholic father, Amedeo de Sabata, was a professional singing teacher and chorus master, and his mother, Rosita Tedeschi, a talented amateur musician, was Jewish. De Sabata began playing the piano at the age of four, and composed a gavotte for that instrument at the age of six. He composed his first work for orchestra at the age of twelve.

Fedora Barbieri was an Italian mezzo-soprano. Barbieri was born in Trieste. She made her official debut in Florence in 1940, but retired in 1943... because of her marriage. She re-emerged in 1945. She was one of the first performers to investigate and perform in early operas by Monteverdi and Pergolesi. Her debut at the Teatro alla Scala, where she was to have her greatest successes, came in 1942, with a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th Symphony, conducted by Victor de Sabata. She made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera on 6 November 1950 in the role of Princess Eboli in Verdi's Don Carlo. Altogether, she gave 96 performances of 11 operas in that house, and also sang Eboli in the famous Luchino Visconti production of the Verdi opera for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden's centenary in 1958. Though she never officially retired, she more or less discontinued performing live in the 1990s, making her career one of the longest in opera history. Although generally considered a formidable actress and singer in her own right, she is now mostly remembered for regularly partnering Maria Callas on as well as off stage during the 1950s.
