The School of Arts and Sciences is the largest of the eight schools and colleges that comprise Tufts University. Together with the School of... Engineering, it offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in the liberal arts, sciences, and engineering. The two schools occupy the university's main campus in Medford and Somerville, Massachusetts and share many administrative functions including undergraduate admissions, student affairs, library, and information technology services. The two schools form the Faculty of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering , a deliberative body under the chairmanship of the president of the university. Currently, the School of Arts and Sciences employs approximately 540 faculty members . There are 4,000 full-time undergraduates and 1700 graduate and professional students. The School of Arts and Sciences is under the supervision of a dean, appointed by the president and the provost, with the approval of the Trustees of Tufts College .

Tufts University School of Dental Medicine is a private dental school and one of the eight schools that comprise Tufts University. Located in... downtown Boston in the Chinatown district, it is one of three dental schools in the Boston area. The building is adjacent to Tufts Medical Center. It is commonly cited as having a strong clinical program with many research opportunities. There are roughly 160 students per class, making it the second largest dental school in the United States. It also has a diverse post-doctoral program including Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Endodontics, Periodontics, Orthodontics, Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry, among others. Tufts Dental School was established in 1868. When the trustees decided to change the name of the institution from "Tufts College" to "Tufts University" in 1954, the dental school became the "Tufts University School of Dental Medicine." In 2009, the Vertical Expansion Project was completed, adding 5 new floors to the existing building. Admission into the School of Dental Medicine is highly competitive.

Along with the School of Arts and Sciences and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, the School of Engineering is located on the university's main campus in Medford and Somerville, Massachusetts. Currently, the Engineering School enrolls approximately 800 full-time undergraduates and 300 graduate students. The school employs 90 full-time and part-time faculty members. The School of Engineering is under the supervision of a dean, appointed by the president and the provost, with the approval of the Trustees of Tufts College . The dean oversees undergraduate and graduate education and research in six academic departments and the Gordon Institute. The School of Engineering and the School of Arts and Sciences form the Faculty of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering , a deliberative body under the chairmanship of the president of the university.

The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University is the oldest school in the United States dedicated solely to graduate studies in... international affairs. It is regarded as one of the world's foremost schools of international affairs. Every Fall, the school enrolls approximately 265 full-time students The Fletcher School employs 30 tenured or tenure-track faculty. Stephen W. Bosworth, the U.S. special representative for North Korea policy, is the current dean of The Fletcher School. The Fletcher School was founded in 1933 with the bequest of Austin Barclay Fletcher, who left over $3 million to Tufts University upon his death in 1923. A third of these funds were dedicated to a school of law and diplomacy. Fletcher did not have in mind a school "of the usual kind, which prepares men for admission to the bar and for the active practice of law.

Gordon S. Wood is Alva O. Way University Professor and Professor of History Emeritus at Brown University and the recipient of the 1993 Pulitzer... Prize for History for The Radicalism of the American Revolution. His book The Creation of the American Republic, 1776–1787 won a 1970 Bancroft Prize. In 2010, he was awarded the National Humanities Medal. Gordon Wood was born in Concord, Massachusetts, and grew up in Worcester and Waltham. He graduated summa cum laude from Tufts University in 1955. and has served as a trustee there. After serving in the U.S. Air Force in Japan, during which time he earned an A.M. at Harvard University, he entered the Ph.D. program in history at Harvard, where he studied under Bernard Bailyn. Wood received his Ph.D. in 1964. He has taught at Harvard, the College of William and Mary, the University of Michigan, Brown, Pitt Professor at Cambridge University, and in 1982–83 and lectured for One Day University.

Anita Shreve is an American writer. The daughter of an airline pilot and a homemaker, she graduated from Dedham High School, attended Tufts... University and began writing while working as a high school teacher in Reading MA. One of her first published stories, Past the Island, Drifting, was awarded an O. Henry Prize in 1976 . Among other jobs, Shreve spent three years working as a journalist in Nairobi, Kenya. She also taught creative writing at Amherst College in the 1990s.The Pilot's Wife was selected for Oprah's Book Club in March 1999. Since then, Shreve's novels have sold millions of copies worldwide. Her novel Resistance was turned into the 2003 movie with the same title Resistance, with Bill Paxton and Julia Ormond as the main characters. She lives in Longmeadow, Massachusetts.

Roderick MacKinnon is a professor of Molecular Neurobiology and Biophysics at Rockefeller University who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry together... with Peter Agre in 2003 for his work on the structure and operation of ion channels. MacKinnon was born in Burlington, Massachusetts and initially attended the University of Massachusetts Boston. MacKinnon then transferred to Brandeis University after one year, and there he received a bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 1978, studying calcium transport through the cell membrane for his honors thesis in Christopher Miller's laboratory. It was also at Brandeis where MacKinnon met his future wife and working-colleague Alice Lee. After receiving his degree from Brandeis, MacKinnon entered medical school at Tufts University. He got his M.D. in 1982 and received training in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He did not feel satisfied enough with the medical profession, so in 1986 he returned to Christopher Miller's laboratory at Brandeis for postdoctoral studies.

Henry Albert "Hank" Azaria is an American film, television and stage actor, director, voice actor, and comedian. He is noted for being one of the... principal voice actors on the animated television series The Simpsons , on which he performs the voices of Moe Szyslak, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, Chief Wiggum, Comic Book Guy, Carl Carlson and numerous others. Azaria, who attended Tufts University, joined the show with little voice acting experience, but became a regular in its second season. Many of his performances on the show are based on famous actors and characters; Moe's voice, for example, is based on actor Al Pacino. Alongside his continued voice acting on The Simpsons, Azaria became more widely known through his live-action appearances in films such as The Birdcage and Godzilla . He has continued to star in numerous films including Mystery Men , America's Sweethearts , Shattered Glass , Along Came Polly , Run Fatboy Run , Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and The Smurfs .

Allan MacLeod Cormack was a South African-born American physicist who won the 1979 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work on X-ray... computed tomography . Cormack was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He attended the Rondebosch Boys' High School in Cape Town, where he was active in the debating and tennis teams. He received his B.Sc. in physics in 1944 from the University of Cape Town and his M.Sc. in crystallography in 1945 from the same institution. He was a research student at Cambridge University from 1947–49, and while at Cambridge he met his future wife, Barbara Seavey, an American physics student. After marrying Seavey, he returned to the University of Cape Town in early 1950 to lecture. Following a sabbatical at Harvard in 1956-57, the couple agreed to move to the United States, and Cormack became a professor at Tufts University in the fall of 1957. Cormack became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1966. Although he was mainly working on particle physics, Cormack's side interest in x-ray technology led him to develop the theoretical underpinnings of CT scanning.

William Moulton Marston , also known by the pen name Charles Moulton, was an American psychologist, feminist theorist, inventor and comic book writer... who created the character Wonder Woman. Two women, his wife Elizabeth Holloway Marston and Olive Byrne , served as exemplars for the character and greatly influenced her creation. He was inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2006. Born in Saugus, Massachusetts, William Marston was educated at Harvard University, receiving his B.A. in 1915, an L.L.B. in 1918, and a Ph.D. in Psychology in 1921. After teaching at American University in Washington D.C. and Tufts University in Medford MA, Marston traveled to Universal Studios in California in 1929, where he spent a year as Director of Public Services. Marston is credited as the creator of the systolic blood pressure test used in an attempt to detect deception, which became one component of the modern polygraph.

Martin J. Sherwin is a Pulitzer Prize-winning American historian. His scholarship mostly concerns the history of the development of atomic energy and... nuclear proliferation. Sherwin received his B.A. from Dartmouth College and his Ph.D. in history from the University of California, Los Angeles. He was the long-time Walter S. Dickson professor of English and American history at Tufts University until his retirement in May 2007. He is now a professor emeritus of Tufts and a University Professor at George Mason University. He has received numerous awards and grants besides those listed here. He and co-author Kai Bird shared the Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography in 2006, for their book on Robert Oppenheimer's life, titled American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Sherwin worked on the book for two decades before Bird, a writer , came on to collaborate in piecing all his research together. Sherwin also wrote A World Destroyed: Hiroshima and its Legacies, which won the Stuart L. Bernath Prize, and the National Historical Society's American History Book Prize.
