Sewell–Thomas Stadium is a baseball stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It is the home field of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide college... baseball team. The stadium opened in 1948 and the current seating capacity is 6,571. The stadium is commonly referred to as "The Joe". The stadium opened as Thomas Field on March 26, 1948, in honor of former Tide head coach Frank Thomas, with a capacity of 2,000. In 1978, a bill was introduced by undergraduate SGA Senator Mike Harrington to rename the stadium Sewell–Thomas Stadium, adding the name of former UA baseball standout and head coach Joe Sewell, who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown in 1977. Alabama has ranked in the top 10 nationally in attendance in 12 of the last 13 years. In several years, the program has been in the nation's top 5 teams in average home attendance over the years, including second-place finishes in 2000, 2001 and 2002. In 2011, the Crimson Tide ranked 12th in Division I college baseball in attendance, averaging 3,904 per home game.

The Battle Friedman House is an antebellum town home located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The house was built in 1835 by Alfred Battle and his wife,... Millicent Battle. The house's grounds include the only remaining documented antebellum garden in the state, the house itself is noted for its vernacular use of monumental boxed columns. The Battle family lived in the house until 1875, when the home was purchased by Bernard Friedman. The Friedman family continued to reside in the house until Victor Hugo Friedman died in 1965, leaving the house to the city of Tuscaloosa. The Tuscaloosa County Preservation Society currently maintains the house as a historic house museum. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Bryant–Denny Stadium, located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is the home stadium for the University of Alabama football team. The stadium opened in... 1929, and was originally named Denny Stadium, in honor of former Alabama president George Hutchenson Denny. The stadium's name was amended to Bryant–Denny Stadium in 1975 after the Alabama legislature chose to honor famed Alabama coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. It has a seating capacity of 101,821, and is the second largest stadium in the SEC, the fifth largest stadium in the United States and the eighth largest non-racing stadium by seating in the world. Serving as a replacement for Denny Field, Denny Stadium opened on September 28, 1929, with 6,000 in attendance for a 55–0 victory over Mississippi College. It was officially dedicated the following week at Homecoming ceremonies against Ole Miss, a game the Tide would win 22–7. Originally, the stadium had a capacity of 12,000, though President Denny initially envisioned a full bowl stadium capable of seating 66,000 people. In 1937, the first expansion of the stadium added 6,000 seats along the east sideline to increase the capacity to 18,000.

Foster Auditorium is a multi-purpose facility at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It was built in 1939 as a Works Progress... Administration project and has been used for Alabama basketball, women's sports , graduations, lectures, concerts, and other large gatherings, including registration. Its status as the largest indoor building on campus came to an end in 1968 with the opening of the Memorial Coliseum. The building housed the Department of Kinesiology until 2006. In April 2009, the University announced a major renovation for the auditorium. After the renovation, the Crimson Tide women's basketball and volleyball programs moved back to Foster Auditorium, their original home. The facility is named for Richard Clarke Foster, president of the University of Alabama from 1937 to 1941. The building was declared a National Historic Landmark on April 5, 2005. Foster Auditorium was the site of a full court shot during the January 4, 1955 basketball game between the University of Alabama and the University of North Carolina. Alabama player George Linn made the 84 feet 11 inch shot at the end of the first half.

Astros , Cleveland Indians , Washington Senators , and Chicago White Sox . Maye was also well known as a Rhythm & Blues singer. He was the lead singer for the Los Angeles based doo-wop group Arthur Lee Maye and the Crowns in the 1950s. Maye died at the age of 67 in Riverside, California. In a 13-year Major League Baseball career Maye played for the Milwaukee Braves, Houston Astros, Cleveland Indians, Washington Senators, and the Chicago White Sox. From 1961 to 1966, and again in 1969, he started in more than half of his team's games, with a high of 133 games started in 1964. Maye was also used quite often as a pinch-hitter during his 13-season career. In 1964, playing for the Milwaukee Braves, Maye had personal career-highs in almost every category; including 153 games played, 74 RBI, and a .304 batting average. He also led the National League with 44 doubles.

Raised in West Blocton, Alabama, Marshall became a track-runner, cheerleader, and Homecoming Queen in high school before attending the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York. She then became a flight attendant. Before her involvement in wrestling she competed in beauty pageants, winning Miss Illinois.

Gene Washington was a NFL player for many years who played for the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions as a wide receiver. He also played football... for Stanford University. He is a member of Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity, and was the first black member of the fraternity. Currently, he is the director of football operations for the NFL. He is also on the board of the National Park Foundation. He has two children, a daughter, Kelly Washington who currently attends UCLA and a son, Daniel Washington who attends Pepperdine University. Living and playing in California gave Washington the opportunity to appear in a number of films and television series. He also served as a commentator for NBC's NFL coverage in the early 1980s and sports anchor at KABC-TV in the late 1980s. He was the guest of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at a State Dinner for Queen Elizabeth II and a State Dinner for Ghanaian President John Kufuor.

Eddie Hinton was an American songwriter and session musician best known for his work with soul music and R&B singers. He played lead guitar for... Muscle Shoals Sound Rhythm Section from 1967 to 1971. As a session guitarist, Hinton played on hit records recorded by Wilson Pickett, Arthur Conley, Aretha Franklin, Joe Tex, Solomon Burke, Percy Sledge, The Staple Singers, The Dells, Paul Kelly, Johnny Taylor, Elvis Presley, The Box Tops, R.B. Greaves, Boz Scaggs, Evie Sands, Looking Glass, Toots Hibbert and Otis Redding. Hinton was a songwriter in his own right as well. His most well known song is "Breakfast in Bed" which has been recorded many times, most notably by Dusty Springfield and by UB40 with Chrissie Hynde. Eddie Hinton co-wrote 'It's all wrong But it's all right' sung by Laura Lee. The song "Sandwiches for the Road" by fellow Alabamians Drive-By Truckers is based on the life of Eddie Hinton. It appears on their 1998 debut LP, Gangstabilly. A full-length documentary of the life and musical career of Eddie Hinton was made by New Mexico Filmmakers Deryle Perryman and Moises Gonzalez.

Reverend Fred Lane is the stage name of the Tuscaloosa, Alabama born singer, songwriter, and visual artist T.R. Reed , who released two relatively... obscure yet critically appreciated albums in the 1980s on the Shimmy Disc label. These albums explored various traditional genres of American music such as jazz, country, and big-band swing, but infused with improvisational experimentations and Dadaist free-associative lyrics. Lane was involved in the conceptual music scene at the University of Alabama in the city of Tuscaloosa in the mid-seventies. He was a member of the Raudelunas Marching Vegetable Band collective, influenced by the ’pataphysical theories of Alfred Jarry. His stage persona displayed a devilish grin, goggle glasses, a well-oiled goatee, and various band-aids applied to his cheeks and scalp. He released two albums in the early 1980s. From the One That Cut You, credited to Fred Lane & Ron Pate's Debonairs, was inspired by a somewhat illiterate threat note found in a 1952 Dodge Panel truck. Ron Pate's Debonairs was a big band that included noted Alabama-based free improvisers Davey Williams and LaDonna Smith, both performing under aliases.
