Clemson University is an American public, coeducational, land-grant and sea-grant research university located in Clemson, South Carolina, United States. Founded in 1889, Clemson University consists of five colleges: Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences; Architecture, Arts and Humanities;... Business and Behavioral Sciences; Engineering and Science; and Health, Education and Human Development. As of the year 2011, Clemson University enrolled a total of 15,346 undergraduate students for the spring semester and 3,743 graduate students, and the student/faculty ratio is 16:1. The cost of in-state tuition is about $11,078 and out-of-state tuition is $25,388. Thomas Green Clemson, the university's founder, came to the foothills of South Carolina in 1838, when he married Anna Maria Calhoun, daughter of John C. Calhoun, a South Carolina statesman and seventh U.S. Vice President. When Clemson died on April 6, 1888, he left most of his estate, which he inherited from his wife, in his will to be used to establish a college that would teach scientific agriculture and the mechanical arts to South Carolinians.

Saint George is a town in Dorchester County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 2,084 at the 2010 census, a loss of 8 persons from 2000. It has been the county seat of Dorchester County since the latter's formation from Colleton County in 1897. As defined by the U.S. Office of... Management and Budget, and used by the U. S. Census Bureau for statistical purposes only, Saint George is included within the Charleston-North Charleston-Summerville metropolitan area. Saint George is located at 33°11′N 80°35′W / 33.183°N 80.583°W / 33.183; -80.583 . According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.7 square miles , all of it land. It is located very near the crossing of Interstate 26 and Interstate 95. In the mid 1980s, town leaders wanted to create a yearly festival for the city. After a search of possible festivals, local grocery store owner John Walters discovered from the Quaker grits people that the upper part of Dorchester County consumes more grits per capita than any other place in the world. The Worlds Grits Festival was then created and has been held each year since.
