Universiti Tun Abdul Razak was established on 18 December 1997 as one of the first private universities in Malaysia. The University was named after Malaysia's second Prime Minister, the late YAB Tun Abdul Razak bin Dato' Hussein, and officially launched on 21 December 1998 by Tun Abdul Razak's eldest son, YAB Dato' Seri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak, current Prime Minister of Malaysia and then Minister of Education.
