The University of Copenhagen Faculty of Law has two departments including a number of research centres and prepares students for the Bachelor of Law... degree and the profession degree in Law, cand. jur. or candidata juris. The Faculty runs a special library, known as the Law Laboratory, for students. The Faculty of Law at the University of Copenhagen is Denmark's largest law school, and one of the largest in Northern Europe, with approximately 4000 law students. One of the main objectives of the Faculty is to intensify contacts with foreign universities and law schools. These contacts have greatly increased in recent years. They include such activities as encouraging research and studies abroad, international student exchanges, faculty exchanges and a developing programme for visiting scholars. The Faculty of Law at the University of Copenhagen has existed since 1479 when the University was founded. The instituting statute founding the Faculty is still preserved in the archives of the Danish Royal Library.

The Faculty of Theology at the University of Copenhagen is the smallest faculty with three departments and the affiliated Centre for African Studies.... The disciplines offered are: Biblical Exegesis, Church History, Dogmatics, Ethics and Philosophy of Religion. The Faculty runs the Søren Kierkegaard Library and the Søren Kierkegaard Research Centre. The Centre for Christianity and the Arts is a unit under the Department of Church History. The Faculty prepares students for the Master’s degree in Theology.

The University of Copenhagen Faculty of Health Sciences houses ten academic departments that focus on the theoretical aspects of research and... teaching. Clinical research and teaching are carried out at University hospitals in the Copenhagen area and are co-ordinated by the University Clinical Centre, which is divided into six clinical departments. Both the theoretical and the clinical elements of dental training are carried out at the Institute of Dentistry. The Faculty produces graduates in medicine, and dentistry in addition to MSc programs in human biology, and public health. Also, the Faculty offers a Master's degree in public health, Bachelor's and further degrees in Public Health in addition to Master's degrees in International Health and Disaster Management. The Faculty library is part of the Royal Library and is shared with the Faculty of Life Sciences. In January 2012 the Faculty of Health Sciences merged with the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Industries and the veterinary field of the Faculty of Life Sciences into a new Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.

The Faculty of Science at the University of Copenhagen consists of both mathematical and natural sciences, and is divided into 11 institutes... including the Natural History Museum of Denmark. Some institutes are in turn divided into a number of sections and laboratories, and the faculty also encompasses several national and international research centres, and has a number of field stations in Denmark and in Greenland, among them the Arctic Station in central West Greenland. All institutes are situated in the central part of Copenhagen. The fine old building of the former Astronomical Observatory - 3 Øster Voldgade - now houses the Faculty Administration. The Faculty of Science is a big and living work place. The faculty has a permanent staff of 1200 people inclusive academic tenures and technical or administrative personnel. Additionally a large number of temporary staff works at the faculty financed by external grants and contracts. The Faculty of Science offers a three-year Bachelor of Science degree , a two-year Master of Science degree and a three-year Ph.D. degree. There are two main areas of study programmes.

The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University is now a faculty under the University of Copenhagen and is called the Faculty of Life Sciences.

Niels Henrik David Bohr was a Danish physicist who made foundational contributions to understanding atomic structure and quantum mechanics, for... which he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922. Bohr mentored and collaborated with many of the top physicists of the century at his institute in Copenhagen. He was part of the British team of physicists working on the Manhattan Project. Bohr married Margrethe Nørlund in 1912, and one of their sons, Aage Bohr, grew up to be an important physicist who in 1975 also received the Nobel Prize. Bohr has been described as one of the most influential scientists of the 20th century. Bohr was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1885. His father, Christian Bohr, was professor of physiology at the University of Copenhagen , while his mother, Ellen Adler Bohr, came from a wealthy Jewish family prominent in Danish banking and parliamentary circles .Despite having a religious background, he later became an atheist.

Johannes Andreas Grib Fibiger was a Danish scientist, physician, and professor of pathological anatomy who won the 1926 Nobel Prize in Physiology or... Medicine. Fibiger had claimed to find an organism he called Spiroptera carcinoma that caused cancer in mice and rats. He received a Nobel prize for this discovery. Later, it was shown that this specific organism was not the primary cause of the tumors. Moreover, Katsusaburo Yamagiwa, only two years later in 1915 successfully induced squamous cell carcinoma by painting crude coal tar on the inner surface of rabbits' ears. Yamagiwa's work has become the primary basis for this line of research. Because of this, some consider Fibiger's Nobel Prize to be undeserved particularly because Yamagiwa did not receive the prize. But others credit Fibiger with showing that external stimuli can induce cancer and proving the correlation by experimental method. Encyclopædia Britannica's guide to Nobel Prizes in cancer research mentions Yamagiwa's work as a milestone without mentioning Fibiger. While studying tuberculosis in lab rats, Fibiger found tumors in some of his rats.

Niels Kaj Jerne, FRS was a Danish immunologist. He shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1984 with Georges J. F. Köhler and... César Milstein "[f]or theories concerning the specificity in development and control of the immune system and the discovery of the principle for production of monoclonal antibodies". Jerne is known for three significant ideas. First, instead of the body creating antibodies in response to an antigen, Jerne postulated that the immune system already has the specific antibodies it needs to fight antigens. Second, it was known that the immune system learns to be tolerant to the individual's own self. Jerne postulated that this learning took place in the thymus. Third, it was known that T cells and B cells communicate with each other. Jerne's network theory proposed that the active sites of antibodies were attracted to both specific antigens and to other antibodies that were bound to the same site. The antibodies were in balance, until an antigen disturbed the balance, creating an immune reaction.

Jens Christian Skou is a Danish chemist and Nobel laureate. Skou was born in Lemvig, Denmark to a wealthy family. His father Magnus Martinus Skou... was a timber and coal merchant. His mother Ane-Margrethe Skou took over the company after the death of his father. At the age of 15 Skou entered a boarding school in Haslev, Zealand. He graduated in medicine from the University of Copenhagen in 1944 and received his doctorate in 1954. He began working at the University of Aarhus in 1947 and was appointed professor of biophysics in 1977. He retired from the University of Aarhus in 1988, but has kept his offices at the institute. In 1997 he received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his discovery of Na,K-ATPase . Skou had taken a few years away from his clinical training in the early 1950s to study the action of local anaesthetics. He had discovered that a substance’s anaesthetic action was related to its ability to dissolve in a layer of the lipid part of the plasma membrane, the anaesthetic molecules affected the opening of sodium channels which he assumed to be protein.

Wolfgang Ernst Pauli was an Austrian theoretical physicist and one of the pioneers of quantum physics. In 1945, after being nominated by Albert... Einstein, he received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his "decisive contribution through his discovery of a new law of Nature, the exclusion principle or Pauli principle," involving spin theory, underpinning the structure of matter and the whole of chemistry. Pauli was born in Vienna to a chemist Wolfgang Joseph Pauli and his wife Bertha Camilla Schütz. His middle name was given in honor of his godfather, physicist Ernst Mach. Pauli's paternal grandparents were from prominent Jewish families of Prague; his great-grandfather was the Czech-Jewish publisher Wolf Pascheles. His father converted from Judaism to Roman Catholicism shortly before his marriage in 1899. His mother, Bertha Schütz, was raised in her mother's Roman Catholic religion; her father was Jewish writer Friedrich Schütz. Pauli was raised as a Roman Catholic, although eventually he and his parents left the Church. Pauli attended the Döblinger-Gymnasium in Vienna, graduating with distinction in 1918.

Werner Karl Heisenberg was a German theoretical physicist who made foundational contributions to quantum mechanics and is best known for asserting... the uncertainty principle of quantum theory. In addition, he made important contributions to nuclear physics, quantum field theory, and particle physics. Heisenberg, along with Max Born and Pascual Jordan, set forth the matrix formulation of quantum mechanics in 1925. Heisenberg was awarded the 1932 Nobel Prize in Physics for the creation of quantum mechanics, and its application especially to the discovery of the allotropic forms of hydrogen. Following World War II, he was appointed director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physics, which was soon thereafter renamed the Max Planck Institute for Physics. He was director of the institute until it was moved to Munich in 1958, when it was expanded and renamed the Max Planck Institute for Physics and Astrophysics. Heisenberg was also president of the German Research Council, chairman of the Commission for Atomic Physics, chairman of the Nuclear Physics Working Group, and president of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
