Rutherford College is the second oldest college of the University of Kent. It is located on the university's Canterbury campus and was established in... 1966. The college is named after Ernest Rutherford, the physicist and Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry. As Rutherford achieved fame in both Physics and Chemistry, it was felt that he was a particularly appropriate namesake given the University's original desire to break down the boundaries between disciplines. Rutherford was also an alumnus of the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. The basic design of the college is to a large extent a mirror of Eliot College, and was inspired by Louis Kahn's design for a residential block at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. The need to have three hundred study-bedrooms and several large areas for distinctive use, such as teaching, a common room and a dining hall plus kitchens, led to the adoption of a section design with the college divided into several square blocks, each containing a distinctive interior space with study bedrooms along all four walls.

Keynes College is the third oldest college of the University of Kent. It was established in 1968. It was named, after much debate, after the... economist John Maynard Keynes. Other names considered included Richborough, a town in Kent, and Anselm, a former Archbishop of Canterbury. Appropriately the University's department of Economics is located within the building. The college was designed by different architects from Eliot and Rutherford and consequently has a very different design. With limited funds, the initial study bedrooms lacked individual wash-basins, instead having communal facilities, though common areas for groups of study bedrooms were included, a change from the Eliot and Rutherford corridors. Keynes is notable for having a much clearer separation between the residential and non-residential areas than the other three colleges, with the teaching rooms and old dining hall concentrated at the front and east of the college. 2011 has been a year of change for Keynes College, with bedroom space expanding to almost 700 students. Keynes College is now one of the biggest colleges on the Canterbury Camous and has rooms for catered and self-catered students.

Darwin College is the fourth oldest college of the University of Kent, an English institution in the United Kingdom. It was opened in 1970. After... heavy debate, it was named after Charles Darwin, the biologist. Unusually for a namesake of a Kent college, Darwin had strong connections to the historic county of Kent, having lived in Down House at Downe for the last forty years of his life. Other names considered in the lengthy process included: The name was eventually decided by a postal ballot of members of the Senate, choosing from: Attlee, Conrad, Darwin, Elgar,Maitland, Marlowe and Tyler. Darwin Student Committee or the DSC are a group of students who volunteer their time to make the life of Darwin College students more enjoyable. They are made up of a committee of students who meet and discuss the issues that concern the students, deal with problems, organise Freshers week, listen to concerns and improve your experience at Darwin College.

The Brussels School of International Studies began as an initiative of the Department of Politics and International Relations of the University of Kent at Canterbury. The original concept was devised by Professor AJR Groom of Kent and Professor Gustaaf Geeraerts of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel , whilst discussing the future of European education at a pan-European conference of International Relations. The then recently opened high-speed rail link from Ashford, near Canterbury, to Brussels, made such trans-border educational cooperation technically feasible.

Orlando Jonathan Blanchard Bloom is an English actor. On 12 October 2009, Bloom was named a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. Orlando Bloom was born in Canterbury, Kent, England, and has one sister, Samantha Bloom, who was born in 1975. His mother, Sonia Constance Josephine , was born in the British section of Kolkata, India, the daughter of Betty Constance Josephine Walker and Francis John Copeland, who was a physician and surgeon. Through her, Bloom is a cousin of photographer Sebastian Copeland.
