Leeds School of Medicine is the medical school of the University of Leeds, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The School of Medicine was founded in... 1831, before the Yorkshire College which became the university, and now forms part of the university's Faculty of Medicine and Health. It is located at the southern end of the campus in the Worsley Building, which also houses the Leeds Dental Institute. The School of Medicine is linked with the two major hospitals for clinical teaching: the Leeds General Infirmary and St James's University Hospital, both run by the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. As of 2008 the medical school accepts some 238 home students and a further 20 from overseas per year. . On 6 June 1831 six physicians and surgeons set up the Leeds medical school with the aim: The medical school admitted its first students in October of that year. It was one of ten provincial medical schools founded in the ten years between 1824-1834. The founders were: The first premises were the Leeds Public Dispensary on North Street in the town but in 1834 the school was moved to new premises at 1 East Parade. In 1979, it moved to its current location in the Worsley Building.

Professor Sir Edmund Happold , better known as Ted Happold, was a structural engineer and founder of Buro Happold. Happold was the son of Frank... Happold, Professor of Biochemistry at Leeds University. After a grammar school education he studied geology at the University of Leeds. His mother was a lifelong socialist. A lifelong Quaker, he registered as a conscientious objector when called to do National Service, and was directed to work as an agricultural labourer and then truck driver and dragline operator. This aroused his interest in construction, so he returned to Leeds University, where he achieved a BSc in Civil Engineering in 1957. After graduation, he spent a short time in the office of Alvar Aalto before joining Ove Arup and Partners on the recommendation of architect Basil Spence. At Ove Arup and Partners he worked with Povl Ahm, engineer for St Michael's Cathedral in Coventry. Happold studied architecture in the evenings. Sir David Charles Baulcombe, FRS is a British plant scientist and geneticist. He is currently Royal Society Research Professor and Regius Professor... of Botany at the University of Cambridge. David Baulcombe was born in Solihull, West Midlands . He received his B.Sc. degree in botany from the University of Leeds in 1973 at the age of 21. He proceeded to the University of Edinburgh, where he received his Ph.D. in botany in 1977. Baulcombe then spent the following three years as a post-doctoral fellow in North America, first at McGill University from January 1977 to November 1978, and then at the University of Georgia until December 1980. Dr. Baulcombe returned to the United Kingdom then, where he joined the Plant Breeding Institute in Cambridge and started his career as an independent scientist. At the PBI, Dr. Baulcombe initially held the position of Higher Scientific Officer, and was promoted to Principal Scientific Officer in April 1986. In August 1988 Dr. Baulcombe left Cambridge for Norwich.
