The School of Architecture is part of the College of Fine Arts at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. It is accredited by the National Architectural... Accrediting Board in October 1997 and currently provides the only program accredited for architecture in the state of Nevada. Degrees offered at the School of Architecture are a Bachelor of Science in architecture , interior architecture and landscape architecture with a master of architecture as a professional degree . The School of Architecture is located in the Paul B Sogg Architecture Building located on the Southeast corner of UNLV's campus on Brussels Road close to Maryland Pkwy and Tropicana Ave in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 75,000-square-foot facility was named after the developer Paul B. Sogg who donated generously for the building's construction. The cost of the building was $8.25 million and was designed by Swisher & Hall Architects of Las Vegas.

Eric Whitacre is an American Grammy award winning composer, conductor and lecturer. He is one of the most popular and performed composers of his... generation. In 2008, the all-Whitacre choral CD Cloudburst became an international best-seller, topping the classical charts and earning a Grammy nomination. Robert Hollingworth commented: "what hits you straight between the eyes is the honesty, optimism and sheer belief that passes any pretension. This is music that can actually make you smile." In addition to Whitacre's litany of choral and wind ensemble compositions, he is also known for his "Virtual Choir" projects on YouTube, bringing individual voices from around the globe together in a cyber internet choir. His virtual choirs have exposed his music to a new audience and have helped it gain an unprecedented popularity. Whitacre signed a long-term recording deal with Decca in 2010 and continues to develop his award winning musical Paradise Lost. A concert version was given at Carnegie Hall in 2010. Plans for the stage show and soundtrack extend into 2013.

Akinwande Oluwole "Wole" Soyinka is a Nigerian writer, notable especially as a playwright and poet; he was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize in... Literature, the first African in Africa and the diaspora to be so honoured. Soyinka was born into a Yoruba family in Abeokuta. After study in Nigeria and the UK, he worked with the Royal Court Theatre in London. He went on to write plays that were produced in both countries, in theatres and on radio. He took an active role in Nigeria's political history and its struggle for independence from Great Britain. In 1965, he seized the Western Nigeria Broadcasting Service studio and broadcast a demand for the cancellation of the Western Nigeria Regional Elections. In 1967 during the Nigerian Civil War, he was arrested by the federal government of General Yakubu Gowon and put in solitary confinement for two years. Soyinka has strongly criticized many Nigerian military dictators, as well as other political tyrannies, including the Mugabe regime in Zimbabwe. Much of his writing has been concerned with "the oppressive boot and the irrelevance of the colour of the foot that wears it".
